'Jackets Stay Unbeaten in UAA with 1-1 Tie



ATLANTA - Rochester remained unbeaten in the University Athletic Association men's soccer race after earning a 1-1 double overtime tie at Emory University on Sunday afternoon.

The Yellowjackets are 1-0-3 in the UAA with three games left in the league season - all at home: Washington on Oct. 26, Chicago on Oct. 28, Case on Nov. 3. Overall, Rochester is 7-2-3. Emory is 7-5-2 overall, 2-1-1 in the UAA.

Scott Garfing made six saves for Rochester. Emory's Abe Hanningan made four stops. The Eagles held a 16-12 advantage in shots and a 6-3 edge in corner kicks.

Jack Thesing scored his third goal of the weekend - he had a pair in the 3-2 double OT win at fifth-ranked Carnegie Mellon on Friday night - at 62:40. Andrew Sheridan and Ben Keeton picked up assists by swinging crosses into the box for Thesing to score his eighth goal of the season.

Emory pressed in search of an equalizer and got it with just under five minutes to play. David Garofalo's corner kick went to David Langston in the box. He deflected it over to Andrew Jones who scored his third goal of the season.

In the final minute of regulation, Garafalo took another corner and got it to Langston whose shot was blocked by the defense. Rochester pressed for a tiebreaking goal - particularly in the second extra period with six shots. In the dying seconds, Alex Swanger's shot for a gamewinner was pushed away by Hannigan for a corner kick.
