Two Seniors End XC Career at Nationals

HANOVER, IN- Two University of Rochester seniors ended their Yellowjacket cross country careers on Saturday at the NCAA Division III Championships.
 
Seniors Yuji Wakimoto and Adam Pacheck competed for the third straight year at nationals, this time running as individuals.  In 2011 and 2012, Rochester competed as a team in the race.
 
This year, Wakimoto ended in 133rd place, running the 8K course in a time of 26:08.3.  That time equates to a 5:16 mile pace.  Pacheck ended in 169th place, crossing the tape in 26:24.1, running at a 5:19 mile pace.
 
The two Yellowjackets earned their way into the NCAA Championship field via automatically qualifying at last weeks NCAA Atlantic Regional.  There, Pacheck placed in 9th and Wakimoto ran 12th, earning career best times.
 
At nationals, #3 St. Olaf took home the team title, edging out #1 and 2-time defending champion North Central (IL) by just two points, winning 84-86.  Wisconsin-LaCrosse was 3rd with 155 points and UAA rival Washington-St. Louis was fourth.
 
Connecticut College's Michael LeDuc took home the individual champion honors, running the course in a time of 24:29.3.  Overall there were 275 runners competing in the meet.
 
Both seniors will continue their UR athletic careers running for the Yellowjacket track and field teams starting with the indoor season in mid-December.
