CHICAGO – Rochester will play for seventh place at the University Athletic Association women's volleyball championships after losing to second-ranked Chicago and to NYU, both by 3-0 counts on Friday afternoon.

The Yellowjackets will be paired against Brandeis University in Saturday's seventh place match. That will start at 10 a.m. Central Time. Chicago is serving as the host. The seventh-, fifth-, and third-place matches will be held at 10 a.m. The championship match will start at 1 p.m. The winner of that match receives the UAA's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III playoffs.

Shaw had 6 kills & two blocks
Chicago defeated Rochester, 25-17, 25-14, 25-12 to start the championships on Friday. UC was the regular-season UAA champion. NYU, the sixth-seed in the tournament, lost to third-seeded Carnegie Mellon in the quarterfinals. That put the Violets into the consolation round against Rochester early evening on Friday. NYU defeated Rochester, 25-18, 25-12, 25-15, in the consolation match.

The pairing against Brandeis for seventh place gives UR a chance to beat a team that defeated Rochester in the first UAA round robin earlier this year. Brandeis won a five-setter on its own court, 12-25, 25-13, 25-13, 18-25, 8-15.

Against Chicago,
Allie DeRubertis was the kills leader for the Yellowjackets. She had 12.
Sonia McGaffigan and
Megan McHugh had two. DeRubertis added seven digs.
Sara Apanavicius led Rochester with 10 digs and
Renae Lapins had four. Lapins also had 13 assists and a service ace. Isabella Miranda had five assists and Apanavicius had three.
Hope Havenhill had three blocks. McHugh and
Kaylin Williams had two.

The attack leader against NYU was
Tamera Shaw with six. She also had two blocks. DeRubertis added four kills and two assists. McHugh had three kills and one block.
Beth Ghyzel had two aces, one block, and seven digs. Lapins registered nine assists. Miranda contributed five. Apanavicius had 12 digs and
Megan Hauer had nine.
