Four students who have been instrumental in the success of the baseball and softball teams at the University of Rochester have been recognized for their academic prowess as well.

All four have been named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District III First Team in voting by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Harleigh Kaczegowicz has been named to the Google Cloud Softball Team. John Denzer,
Jake Hertz, and
Garrett Renslow have been named to the Google Cloud Baseball Team. All four now advance to the national ballot for consideration as Academic All-Americans.

The Yellowjacket softball team finished 21-19 overall and reached the championship game of the Liberty League Tournament. Rochester was 9-5 in regular season league play and earned the #2 seed for the tournament.

Rochester's baseball team hosted, then won the Liberty League Tournament to secure an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III playoffs. The Yellowjackets are 28-15. They will play at the College of Wooster in Wooster, OH on May 17-19. It is Rochester's first NCAA playoff appearance since 1999.

Harleigh Kaczegowicz
Kaczegowicz, a senior catcher, (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull HS) was named to the All-District First Team for the second time in her career. She earned All-Liberty League honors three times. In her junior season, she was named to the Top 50 Watch List for Player of the Year by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). She was the team's catcher for all four seasons.

She started all 40 games this year for the Yellowjackets. Kaczegowicz finished second in average (.326, 44-135), scored a team-high 32 runs, had 13 doubles, one triple, and six home runs. She was second in home runs, RBIs (27), and slugging percentage (.570). She was 10-10 on stolen base attempts. In the field, she had 125 putouts, 16 assists, and five errors for a fielding percentage of .966.

Her career batting average was .337 (163-483) with 100 runs scored, 40 doubles, six triples, 11 HRs, and 75 RBIs. She had 527 putouts, 76 assists, and 23 errors (career fielding pct. of .963).

Kaczegowicz will graduate with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Her cumulative GPA is 3.84 on a 4.00 scale. In April, she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, the internationally renowned honor society. She is a member of Tau Beta Pi, the engineering honor society. In the fall of 2018, she was honored as a Lysle "Spike" Garnish Scholar-Athlete by the UR athletic department. These awards are presented to the top 10 senior student-athletes for academic achievement, athletic skill, and community service.

Garrett Renslow:
Garrett Renslow
Renslow (Castleton, NY/Maple Hill) was elected to the All-District First Team right before the greatest pitching performance of his career. In the first round of the Liberty League baseball playoffs (hosted by Rochester) on May 9, he threw a complete-game no-hitter, issuing two walks and recording eight strikeouts in a 10-0 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). Two days later, he picked up the win in an 8-2 victory over Clarkson University that clinched the Liberty League Championship for Rochester and an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III playoffs.

The junior right-hander has a 6-2 record with a 1.66 ERA for 54.1 innings of work heading into the NCAAs this weekend at the College of Wooster in Ohio. He has appeared in 12 games (eight starts) with three complete games and one save. He has allowed 10 earned runs (12 overall), 38 hits, walked 14, and struck out 62. Opponents are batting .192 against him.

Renslow was named First Team All-Liberty League this season. He has a cumulative GPA of 3.97 on a 4.00 scale with a double major of Neuroscience and Psychology. He is a teaching assistant for Organic Chemistry and has held positions in Neurobiology and Human Physiology. He was selected as a Provost's Circle Scholar which honors the top junior student—athletes. This summer, he will do research work in Neuropsychology at the Albany Medical Center. He has volunteered at that facility as well as at the University of Rochester Medical Center.

John Denzer:
John Denzer
Denzer (Lewisville, TX/Trinity Christian Academy) has been one of Rochester's steadiest pitchers over the last two seasons and a reason the Yellowjackets secured the Liberty League's top seed in the playoffs in 2018 and 2019.

The senior righthander has a 4-5 record with a 4.83 ERA in 11 appearances (10 starts) heading into the NCAAs this weekend. In 59.2 innings pitched, he has 49 strikeouts against 15 walks. Last year, he had a 6-3 record with two wins in the Liberty League tournament to get Rochester to the title game. He had a mid-season stretch this year where he allowed seven earned runs over five starts. Â He earned All-Liberty League honors this spring.

Denzer has a cumulative GPA of 3.86 on a 4.00 scale. He is majoring in Financial Economics with minors in Computer Science and Legal Studies. He was a teaching assistant for Economics as a sophomore.

He was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, the internationally renowned honor society. At Rochester, he was selected for Keidaeans, the University's senior honor society. Denzer interned at Freeman & Company as an undergraduate and will work there following graduation. He had a term as the President of the Young Men's Service League in Dallas.

Jake Hertz:
Jake Hertz
Hertz (Briarcliff Manor, NY/Briarcliff) has enjoyed an outstanding junior year after missing the major part of 2018 with an injury. The junior outfielder is hitting .331 (50-151) with 25 runs scored, six doubles, one triple, one home run, 21 RBIs, and a slugging percentage of .404. He has 70 putouts and four assists and is the only player to compete in all 43 games this year (42 starts).

In the recently completed Liberty League Tournament at Rochester, Hertz hit .471 (8-17) over the five games with six RBIs. He was 2-3 with 2 runs scored in a 10-0 win over RPI, 3-4 in a 16-9 loss to Clarkson in the winner's bracket, 1-3 with both UR RBIs in a 2-1 elimination bracket win over RIT (a two-run triple in the seventh with the Yellowjackets down, 1-0), 1-3 with a run scored in an 8-7 win vs. Clarkson in another elimination game, and then 1-4 with two RBIs in the championship game – an 8-2 win over Clarkson

Hertz carries 3.77 cumulative GPA on a 4.00 scale. He is majoring in Electrical & Computer Science with a minor in Computer Science. He has been a teaching assistant for Chemistry for Engineers. He created a computer repair business on campus and has done research on solar panels. Hertz was an intern at the 3D Printer Company in Brooklyn, testing and developing equipment. He will return there this summer. He has also been a math tutor for high school students.
