BROCKPORT, NY – The University of Rochester battled host Brockport tough, but ultimately fell by a 3-0 score in the opening game of the Brockport Invitational on Friday evening at Vlogiantis Gymnasium.
Brockport (4-6) jumped out to an early lead, winning the opening set 25-13. Rochester (6-4) responded with a solid second set, forcing extra points, but the host Golden Eagles pulled out a 27-25 win. In the third, Brockport finished off the sweep with a 25-18 win.
Rochester was led by junior
Tamera Shaw who had seven kills and hit .462. First-year
Sonia McGaffigan added four kills on five attempts while
Allie DeRubertis had three kills.
Isabelle Miranda had 11 assists, while
Renae Lapins had seven with a team best two service aces.
Beth Ghyzel led Rochester with nine digs while two others,
Jessica Danner and
Kiara Carrasquilla had five each.
The Golden Eagles had two players with double-digit kills, including Andrea Coyle who had 14 kills and Lindsey Luce who had 10 kills and hit .556. Kerri McHale had 20 assists while Shelby Budnick added 11 digs for the Golden Eagles.
The Yellowjackets conclude the tournament with matchups against Ithaca and Hamilton on Saturday afternoon.
