#22 Ithaca, Hamilton Top Rochester at Brockport Tourney

BROCKPORT, NY – The University of Rochester volleyball team closed out competition at the Brockport Volleyball Invitational on Saturday with a pair of defeats, falling by 3-0 scores to #22 Ithaca College and Hamilton College at the College at Brockport.
 
Rochester falls to 6-6 on the season and will host Houghton College in a single match on Tuesday evening at the Palestra.  Ithaca improved to 5-3 with the win over Rochester, while Hamilton's record gets pushed to 4-3 following play.
 
In the Ithaca match, Rochester could only muster a .127 hitting percentage, recording 22 kills, compared to the Bombers who struck the ball at a .348 clip.  Ithaca won 25-18, 25-15 and 25-12.
 
Tamera Shaw led UR with five kills and a pair of service aces.  Megan McHugh had four kills on six attempts and also had one block.  Allie DeRubertis and Beth Ghyzel had three kills each.  DeRubertis chipped in two blocks and Ghyzel had six digs.
 
Isabelle Miranda handed out 10 assists while Megan Hauer recorded six digs.  Sonia McGaffigan had two blocks in the loss.
 
Against Hamilton, the opening two sets were nailbiters, coming down to the final few points.  In the first, UR had a 24-21 lead, but Hamilton was able to rally, scoring five straight to win 26-24.
 
In the second, Rochester rallied from as many as 10-2 down to take a 22-21 lead, but the Continentals again closed the set strong, scoring four of the last five points to win 25-23.  Hamilton then closed out the win with a 25-18 win in set three.
 
Ghyzel had seven kills and three blocks for UR.  Shaw and McHugh had six kills each while Kiara Carrasquilla recorded five.  Renae Lapins dished out 14 assists and had five digs for UR, while Miranda had 11 helpers.
 
McHugh also had three blocks, while Shaw had two.  Hauer recorded eight service aces, tying her for third most in a single-match in Rochester history, also adding a team-best 14 digs.
