The University of Rochester closed out a perfect 4-0 weekend on Saturday afternoon with wins over SUNY Canton and St. John Fisher, earning the tournament title at the Rochester Volleyball Invitational for the third straight season.

Sara Apanavicius also hit a career milestone, recording 97 total digs in the tournament, leading all players in the event.

Kate Korslund represented Rochester on the 12-player All-Tournament Team following the competition which saw matches held at both RIT and UR. SUNY Cortland, RIT, and St. John Fisher all ended with a 3-1 record and were in second place in the team standings.

UR opened play on Saturday with a 3-1 win over SUNY Canton. After breezing through the first two sets 25-15 and 25-13, the Roos (0-7) were able to rebound with a strong third set edging out a 25-22 win to force a fourth game. The Yellowjackets bounced back and finished off the visitors with a 25-13 win.

Three players had double-digit kills in the match, with
Allie DeRubertis leading the way with 12 kills, hitting .310 for the match.Â
Kiara Carrasquilla and Shaw each hit over .400 and had 10 kills apiece.

Apanavicius recorded her 1,000 dig on Saturday.
Beth Ghyzel had 30 assists, 9 digs, 6 kills and 5 aces, while Apanavicius led the UR defense with 25 digs.

Three players, Marissa Ixtalhuac, Skye Hansen and Melissa McMaster led the Roos with seven kills, while Jenna Roat picked up 23 digs.

The second game of the day proved to be a de facto championship match with both Rochester and St. John Fisher sitting at 3-0 entering the match.

UR saved its best for last, earning a sweep, posting a 25-21, 25-19 and 25-17 win over the Cardinals.

Korslund paced Rochester with 10 kills. Both Shaw and Ghyzel added nine with DeRubertis smacking six.

Ghyzel had 17 assists,
Renae Lapins had 16 with Apanvicius recording 26 more digs. Shaw added four blocks, leading the tournament with 16 across the four matches.

Alea Steigerwald led all players with 16 kills on 43 attempts for the Cardinals (3-5). Lauren Gilbert chipped in 13 kills for the visitors, while Rebecca Hay had 33 assists in the loss.

Rochester's next match is a single game at SUNY Geneseo scheduled for Tuesday at 6 pm.
