ITHACA, NY – The University of Rochester divers competing at the NCAA Division III Region 4 Diving Championships posted another solid day on the diving boards on Saturday, concluding Rochester's regular season competition.

Sophomore men's diver David Robinson paced the trio at the competition at Ithaca College, finishing Saturday's 1-meter competition in fourth place among 16 divers. Senior teammate Adam Hopson placed 13th.

In the women's 3-meter competition, junior Sophie Lever ended in 14th of 19 competitors.

Robinson scored a total of 443.60 points and ranked third in the competition with an average judges score of 6.36 points. The sophomore's highest scoring dive was his forward two and a half somersault pike which netted a total of 53.30 points. Robinson's second to final dive, an inward one and a half somersault pike, also nearly scored 50 points, ending at a total of 49.20 points. Both of his top scoring dives received four 7.0 scores from the judges.

Adam Hopson
Hopson nearly had 400 points over his dive list.

Hopson tallied 390.95 for his 11-dive program. The senior notched a single-dive high of 50.70 points with his forward two and a half somersault pike, earning three 6.5 counting marks from the judges and two other 7.0 scores. Hopson also had a solid inward two somersault tuck dive, scoring 47.60 points after multiple 5.5 and 6.0 scores.

On the 3-meter board, Lever accumulated a score of 377.85 points. She was steady throughout, scoring beween 30 and 40 points on ten of her 11 dives. Her highest rated on the day was the forward one and half somersault pike which had two 7.0 and four 6.5 scores. Lever also had two dives earn 39.60 points towards her score, those being the inward two somersault tuck and the back one and a half somersault one and a half twist.

The divers now must wait and see if their results are enough to qualify them for the NCAA Division III Championships next month. By virtue of his fourth place finish, Robinson is in the best position, as Region 4 has been allotted five men's qualifiers to nationals. The region also will have seven qualifiers from the women's events head to NCAA's.
