McClung, Sides Named CSCAA Scholar All-Americans

7/2/2026 10:30:00 AM

University of Rochester men's and women's swimming & diving senior Max McClung and junior Julia Sides were recognized on the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America Teams, as announced by the CSCAA on Thursday.

McClung and Sides were both named Second-Team selections for their performance both in the pool and in the classroom.

To qualify for First-Team Scholar All-America, student-athletes must have earned a GPA of 3.5 or higher and participated in their national championship. Second-Team selections must have also earned a 3.5 GPA or higher and met an NCAA "B" qualifying standard for the national championship or qualified for a diving zone qualification meet for Division II, Division III, and NAIA.

McClung and Sides were two of over 2,230 swimmers and divers selected to the CSCAA's Scholar All-America Teams, presented by Fitter & Faster Swim Camps, this season.

Sides earns Second-Team Scholar All-America accolades for the second-straight season after qualifying for the NCAA Diving Regional for the second-consecutive year earlier this past spring. Sides placed ninth on the three-meter and 12th on the one-meter at regionals, falling just shy of qualifying for the NCAA Championships.

McClung is the men's program's first Scholar All-American since Jose Corredor Alvarez met the requirements in 2022-23. McClung hit NCAA 'B' cut times in both the 100-yard butterfly and 200-yard backstroke this season, finishing sixth in the 200 backstroke and ninth in the 100 butterfly at the UAA Championships.

Academically, Sides also earned both College Sports Communicators Academic All-District and University Athletic Association (UAA) All-Academic honors this season. McClung was named one of Rochester's 10 Lysle 'Spike' Garnish Scholar-Athletes this past fall and was awarded the Louis Alexander Alumni Award at the Department of Athletics and Recreation's banquet this past spring.
