Women Break Two School Records in UR Spring Classic Meet

PRINCE ATHLETIC COMPLEX – Rochester runners broke two school records –one dating back to 1988 – at the University of Rochester Spring Classic at Edwin Fauver Stadium on Friday afternoon. It was just the third outdoor competition of the season for the Yellowjacket women.
 
The women's 4x100 meter relay team broke the team record by one one-hundredth of a second. UR's foursome of Kate Isaac, Susan Bansbach, Ashley Heffernan, and Madeline O'Connell crossed the finish line in :48.19. The previous record time was :48.20, set last year.
 
O'Connell broke the other record  in the 400 meter run. She was timed in :55:38 to win the race. Her time is the top-ranked time in the 400 for Division III. Rochester's record for the 400 meters was set by Lindis Hoyte in 1988 (:56.45).  She claimed a third individual event title by winning the pole vault with a leap of 3.67 m. (12' ½"). The two running times – 4x100 and 400 – were both qualifiers for the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Championship meet scheduled for next month.
 
Rochester's other All-Atlantic qualifiers were Lisa Pink  in the 1,500 (second in 4:44.60) and the 4x400 relay in 4:05.50 (first place – Madeleine Vogel, Carissa Minarovich, Megan Bell, and Bansbach.
 
Vogel and Ashley Heffernan were UR's top finishers in the hurdle races. Heffernan won the 100 hurdles in :15.22 with Eileen Bequette third (:15.56). Vogel was third in the 400 hurdles (1:10.72). UR had three runners among the top eight in the 400. O'Connell was the event champ and record-breaker. Bell was third (1:01.11) and Lauryn Wilson was eighth (1:05.86).
 
Minarovich placed in the 800 (2:27.86) while Kristin Hardy finished top eight in two events – third in the 100 (:13.16) and fifth in the 200 (26.60). Bansbach won the 200 (:25.81) and Bequette finished eighth (:27.06). Sabrina Terando placed fourth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (12:39.54).
 
In the field events, Rochester had a total of 18 placements among the top eight finishers in seven events. The Yellowjackets placed three apiece in the hammer throw, discus, long jump, and triple jump. Alyssa Hoogs was the leading horizontal jumper for UR. She was second in the triple jump (11.09 m.) and third in the long jump (5.47 m). Zoe Fortin placed in both of those jumps – fourth in the triple jump (10.57 m.) – and seventh in the long jump (5.11 m.). Bequette was top eight in the long jump (5.23 m., - sixth overall). Cora Rose was fifth in the triple jump (10.37 m).
 
Rose was second in the discus (39.23 m.). Gillian Reeder was fifth (37.82 m.) and Grace Mueller was eighth (32.80 m.). Reeder was third in the hammer (45.27 m.) with Vanessa Wish seventh (40.83) and Mueller eighth (40.50 m.). UR ran 5-6 in the shot put. Deziree was fifth in the shot (10.52 m.) and Mueller was sixth (10.28 m.).  Reeder was fourth in the javelin throw (31.30 m.)  with Iris Chi sixth (29.41 m.).
 
Heffernan was third in the pole vault, clearing 3.37 m. O'Connell cleared 3.67 m. to win the vault.
