After a tremendous effort at the All-Atlantic Regional Outdoor Track & Field Championships last week, junior sprinter Madeline O'Connell of the Rochester women's track and field team was named conference Women's Track Performer of the Week in the Liberty League on Monday.

O'Connell had a terrific week competing at the regional championships for Rochester, finishing in the top-3 in three events. O'Connell individually placed second in the 400 meters, running a time of 55.35 seconds. That time is the second fastest in UR history and ended the regular season ranking #5 in Division III.

Additionally, O'Connell ran on UR's runner-up 4x400 meter relay squad which posted a new school record time of 3:44.63, ranking #4 in Division III. Her third event was the 4x100 meter relay and she helped Rochester finish in third with a time of 47.53 seconds. Overall, the Yellowjacket women placed 7th of 44 teams that scored a point.

She, along with five of her teammates are now preparing for a trip to the NCAA Division III Championships later this week in Geneva, Ohio. It will be a busy three days for O'Connell who is scheduled to compete in four events, the 400 meters, pole vault, 4x100 meter relay and 4x400 meter relay.
