ALFRED, NY – The University of Rochester women's swimming and diving team nearly swept its tri-meet against Fredonia State and Alfred University on Saturday at McLane Natatorium, winning 15 of 16 events over the Blue Devils and Saxons.
The Yellowjackets picked up a 237-49 win over Fredonia and a 225-64 win over Alfred, while the Saxons defeated the Blue Devils, 162-90.
UR's 200-yard medley relay of Morgan Edstorm,
Rachele Bachmann,
Caelan Clayton and
Talia Proweller got the Yellowjackets started with a win in the opening event of the meet, touching the wall in 21.98 seconds.
Leah Tang was Rochester's lone triple-winner of the day, scoring wins in the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.68) and 100-yard butterfly (1:00.41) as well as helping UR's 200-yard freestyle relay to an event win in the final event of the day.
Tang, along with
Paige Lovelace,
Jessica Spahn and Melissa Carlson swam a 1:43.48 200-yard freestyle relay, edging UR's 'B' squad in second place.
The Yellowjackets also had four double-winners, with
Marlena Vieira winning both the one and three-meter dives with scores of 239.90 in the one-meter, and 245.60 in the three-meter.
Bachmann, after helping UR finish atop the podium in the 200-medley relay, added another first-place tally in the 200-yard butterfly, touching the wall in 2:15.13, while
Sophia Dmytruk finished first in both the 50-yard freestyle (25.76) and the 200 IM (2:18.18).
UR's last double-winner,
Ariana Pasquella, notched her two wins in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.86) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:37.16).
A trio of first years also added individual wins for the Yellowjackets, with
Katherine Hegblom finishing first in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:41.86),
Alicia Albuquerque in the 200-yard freestyle (2:02.10) and
Simone Lin in the 200-yard backstroke (2:18.45).
Gloria Ng added UR's last event win of the day in the 200-yard breaststroke, clocking in at 2:30.40.
Rochester next hosts Grove City College in a dual meet scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 18 at 1:00 p.m. inside the Speegle-Wilbraham Center.
