UR Stretches Win Streak to Four with Victory Over Grove City

Backed by five individuals who finished as multiple winners in the pool, the University of Rochester women's swimming and diving team posted a strong 188-109 victory over Grove City College on Saturday afternoon at the Speegle-Wilbraham Aquatics Center.
 
Rochester's victory pushes the team's record to 5-3, with the Yellowjackets stretching their dual meet win streak to four straight.
 
UR's double-winners were led by Jessica Spahn who won three events on the day. Sophia Dmytruk, Ariana Pasquella, Simone Lin and Leah Tang all finished with two victories for the Yellowjackets.
 
Rochester's strength was shown especially in the freestyle events, as the 'Jackets were first to the wall in all of those disciplines, including the 200 free relay to close the meet. The quartet of Paige Lovelace, Marissa Carlson, Spahn and Tang posted a time of 1:42.78 to cap off the victory.
 
Spahn was a winner for Rochester in the 50 freestyle, earning a time of 25.38 seconds. She out-touched Tang in a great race by 0.10 seconds.
 
In the 100 freestyle, UR again had a 1-2 finish, with Adele Hellstrom earning the win in 56.38 seconds, with Lovelace garnering runner-up accolades in 56.92 seconds.
 
UR's Alicia Albuquerque finished first in the 200 freestyle (2:01.48), with Lin capturing titles in the 500 free and 1000 free. The first-year's time in the 500 was 5:33.59, and in the longer race, she touched the wall in 11:26.03.
 
Rochester also showcased its depth in the 400 IM, with the Yellowjackets taking the top three spots and earning the four fastest times in the event. Katherine Hegblom won in 4:47.87, and was followed by Albuquerque (4:50.57) in second and Pasquella in third (4:53.33). Rachele Bachmann ended with the fourth fastest time in the event as well for UR.
 
To open the meet, UR's 200 medley relay team of Dmytruk, Pasquella, Bachmann and Spann were winners in 1:53.18.
 
Dmytruk's other win came in the 100 backstroke in 1:01.32, while Gloria Ng ended runner-up in the same event at 1:04.46. Later on in the 200 backstroke, Tang won in 2:20.76, with Caelan Clayton ended second in the race (2:24.68).
 
Pasquella picked up her individual crown in the 100 breaststroke, touching the wall in 1:08.68.
 
In the diving events, Lizzie Budde and Marlena Vieira each picked up a second place finish. Budde was second on the 1-meter board with 239.85 points, while Vieira was second on the 3-meter board with a score of 260.70.
 
The Yellowjackets wrap up their first semester of action in two weeks at the Ithaca College Bomber Invitational on December 1-3.
