ITHACA, NY – Sophomore
Ariana Pasquella captured a victory in the 100 breaststroke in highlighting the University of Rochester women's swimming and diving team's efforts on day two of the Ithaca College Bomber Invitational at the Kelsey Partridge Bird Natatorium.
Rochester currently ranks fourth of 11 teams after three sessions at the event, two of which took place on Saturday. The Yellowjackets have 869 total points after day two. UR trails host Ithaca (1,066 points), Middlebury (995 points) and Hamilton (966 points) on the team leaderboard.
Pasqeulla's win occurred in the evening session, as the sophomore touched the wall firs in 1:05.46. Teammate
Gloria Ng posted a solid finish as well, clocking in 1:06.98, finishing fifth in the race.
To cap the evening session, UR's 800 freestyle relay team of
Leah Tang,
Simone Lin,
Katherine Hegblom and
Alicia Albuquerque finished fifth in 7:55.93.
Overall, the Yellowjackets relay teams all swam well on the day, with the 200 freestyle relay opening the day in the morning with a fourth place result in 1:38.20. That relay consisted of
Morgan Edstrom,
Marissa Carlson,
Jessica Spahn and
Adele Hellstrom.
Ended the morning session, the team of Tang, Pasquella,
Sophia Dmytruk and Edstrom finished third in the 400 medley relay in 4:01.23, scoring key points for the Yellowjackets.
The 200 freestyle event featured the most Yellowjacket scorers on the day, with that event taking place in the early session. Albuquerque placed sixth in 1:57.19, with Tang ending in eighth at 1:57.48. Lin touched in 19th (1:59.72), just ahead of Edstrom (20th, 1:59.74) and Pasquella (24th, 2:00.29).
Other events on Saturday morning also featured multiple UR swimmers in the top-10, each ending with three or more scorers.
During the 100 butterfly, Dmytruk was fourth in 58.35 seconds with Hegblom ranking sixth in 59.23.
Caelan Clayton finished in 13th place (1:00.45) and
Rachele Bachmann was 14th in 1:00.60.
UR's contingent in the 400 IM featured Hegblom, Albuquerque and Bachmann. Hegblom led the group in sixth in 4:42.00, just ahead of Albuquerque in seventh who clocked in at 4:43.72. Bachmann wound up in 17th, scoring a time of 4:56.69.
Rochester's divers all finished in the top-13 in the 3-meter event on Saturday.
Marlena Vieira scored 408.00 points for a ninth place finish.
Lizzie Budde (370.05),
Zuzu Bailey (364.00) and
Julia Sides (320.90) were the other three divers, finishing in 11th through 13th place, respectively.
Four more scorers were Rochester swimmers in the 100 backstroke during the evening events. Tang finished sixth in 59.65 seconds. Dmytruk was 11th in 1:00.53 and
Marissa Carlson (17th, 1:01.06) and
Sophie Sweet (21st, 1:01.71) were the others.
In the 200 butterfly, Rochester's Bachmann finished in ninth following her time of 2:12.34 and teammate
Izzy Stevenson finished 14th in 2:17.76.
The fourth and final session of the invitational takes place starting on Sunday at 9 am.
