ITHACA, NY – A solid three days in the water finished off the first semester of competition for the University of Rochester women's swimming and diving team at the Ithaca Bomber Invitational on Sunday, wrapping up the competition in fourth place.
The Yellowjackets compiled a team score of 1,110 points throughout the 4-session, 3-day event. Host Ithaca claimed the team title with 1,468 points followed closely by Hamilton (1,415 points) and Middlebury who finished in third (1,386 points).
A runner-up finish from
Leah Tang in the 100 freestyle was Rochester's top result of Sunday's action at the Kelsey Partridge Bird Natatorium. Tang finished with a time of 53.27 seconds, ranking second of 61 non-exhibition swimmers in the event.
Tang's finish led a group of six Rochester swimmers that scored in the event.
Morgan Edstrom finished 12th in 54.74 seconds, just ahead of teammate
Jessica Spahn in 13th who had a time of 54.87 seconds. The other three scorers were
Adele Hellstrom (19th, 55.19 seconds),
Paige Lovelace (20th, 55.38 seconds), and
Izzy Stevenson (21st, 55.51 seconds).
Another strong event for the Yellowjackets on day three was the 200 breaststroke, with two swimmers finishing inside the top-8.
Ariana Pasquella ranked fourth in 2:26.44, while
Gloria Ng was eighth with a time of 2:27.80.
Marissa Carlson earned a top-5 finish in the 100 IM, touching in 1:02.86 for the event.
A ninth place finish from
Katherine Hegblom paced Rochester during the 200 backstroke event. Her time was 2:10.60.
Sophia Dmytruk was 11th in 2:12.09 and
Caelan Clayton added a 22nd place result in 2:18.10.
In the freestyle,
Simone Lin captured 18th place with her swim of 18:55.17 in the 1650 yard distance.
To close out the action for the weekend, Rochester's 400 freestyle relay team of Edstrom, Spahn,
Alicia Albuquerque and Tang finished in fifth place with a time of 3:36.31.
UR is now off for the winter break and resumes its 2023-24 schedule in mid-January with a home meet against RIT.
