Lienert Hits Another Record As UR Competes at Ocean Breeze

STATEN ISLAND, NY – The University of Rochester men's track and field team piled up 13 regional qualifiers and had one school record, adding six top-10 performances in a large field at the Fastrack National Invitational on Friday evening at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
 
Junior Mitch Lienert broke another school record, his fourth in as many weeks, clocking in with a 22.00 second time in the 200 meters, finishing in sixth place among 99 runners in the event. Lienert was the top Division III runner in the race and qualified for regionals in the process. He broke his own school record of 22.07 seconds set two weeks ago at the Nazareth Conference Challenge.
 
Sophomore jumper Cole Goodman was the top Division III athlete in both the long and triple jumps on Friday, finishing third in the long jump and 11th in the triple jump, qualifying for regionals in both events. His mark was 7.14 meters in the long jump and 13.46 meters in the triple jump. Teammate Sam Lorenzetti was the second D3 finisher in the triple jump, placing 14th with a 13.20 meter leap.
 
UR's distance runners qualified for regionals twice in the 5000 meters, with Zach Spergel and Vishal Yalamanchili each recording a top-10 finish in a field of 42 runners. Spergel was 3rd in 14:53.25 and Yalamanchili finished 8th in 15:19.84. Nate Brunacini clocked in at 15:20.98, just missing the regional qualifying mark.
 
Senior James O'Neill had a big day in the throws events, leading the Yellowjackets in both the shot put and weight throw. O'Neill tossed 14.33 meters in the shot, finishing 17th of 61. He ended 9th of 56 competitors in the weight throw with a 15.99 meter mark, and qualified for regionals in both events.
 
Teammate Nolan Ragland also is headed to regionals in the weight throw, finishing 12th with a mark of 15.56 meters. Joe Bumpus added a personal-best 15.23 meter toss, winding up in 14th place.

Spergel placed third in the 5000 meters.

First-year Brendan McCollum was seventh of 84 runners in the 800 meters with an AAR time of 1:55.61, while in the 400 meters, senior Gabe Lundy placed 13th of 98 with a 50.45 second sprint, also a regional qualifying performance.
 
UR also got regional marks from P.J. London in the 60 meters, Peter Brodnik in the 60 meter hurdles and Alec Glazier in the mile. London was 16th in his race, running 7.07 seconds, Brodnik also finished 16th in 8.58 seconds while Glazier led the group with a 15th place result (4:19.23).
 
London also had a solid sprint in the 200 meters, finishing in the top-15 of nearly 100 runners, clocking in with a time of 22.52 seconds.
 
Skye Crocker was 13th in the 800 meters in a sub-2:00 race, ending at 1:57.45 and Max Hughes set a new PR of 4:20.95 in the mile, ranking 17th. Frederick Liu and Kyle Lane were 17th and 18th, respectively, in the long jump for Rochester. Liu jumped 6.45 meters and Lane finished just one centimeter behind.
 
Rochester also competed as a split squad on Friday, sending several athletes over to RIT for the RIT Friday Night Invitational. First-year Aadit Jain led the Yellowjacket contingent there with a pair of top-5 results. Jain finished 2nd in the 60 meters in 7.23 seconds and was fourth in the high jump, clearing 1.86 meters.
 
Colin Hascup was solid in the 400 meters, finishing third in 52.70 seconds while Jon Sullo ran to sixth in the 800 meters at 2:02.17. Richard Santarosa was seventh in the mile and Gbe Thyne finished the 1000 meters in ninth. In the throws, Dylan Rykert led UR with a 10th place finish of 45 athletes in the shot put, tossing 12.53 meters.
 
Up next, UR's 4x400 meter relay of Lundy, Lienert, Daniel Ford and McCollum along with senior Scott Sikorski will run in the prestigious Millrose Games on Saturday afternoon in New York City.
