The University of Rochester men's track and field team scored two major Liberty League awards to cap off the outdoor campaign, as announced by the conference on Tuesday. Sophomore
Emmett Hansen was named Co-Men's Field Athlete of the Year, while first-year
Barack Abdallah was selected as the Men's Outdoor Rookie of the Year.
Â
Additionally, Rochester received 14 total All-Conference accolades. The Yellowjackets had three First Team selections, eight Second-Team honorees and three Honorable Mention awards.
Â
All-League honors are earned by top-three finishers at the conference meet that took place in early May. First-place finishers are named First Team All-League, second-place finishers earn Second Team All-Conference, while third-place results garner Honorable Mention accolades. Major award winners are voted on by the league coaches.
Â
Hansen was the lone Yellowjacket men's athlete to compete at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships in La Crosse, WI, and ended up securing Second Team All-America honors with a 15th-place result in the decathlon. The sophomore scored 6,378 points and secured four top-10 finishes among the decathletes at NCAAs, including fifth-place finishes in the high jump and 1,500 meters. Hansen qualified for the NCAA Championships after winning the All-Atlantic Region Outdoor Championships decathlon title with a personal-best and conference-best score of 6,596 points.
Â
This season, Hansen was named Liberty League Field Performer of the Week once and ended the year with a top-10 ranking within the conference in five different events, ranking first in the decathlon, fourth in the long jump and javelin and sixth in the high jump. He finished second in the decathlon at the Liberty League Championships, despite not recording a score in the discus, finishing top three in nine of the ten decathlon competitions that weekend.
Â
Abdallah was the top short sprinter for the Yellowjacket men's squad in 2026 and already etched his name in the URochester record books. The first-year set a new school record in the 100 meters, clocking in at 10.73 seconds at the All-Atlantic Regional Championships. Abdallah scored for the Yellowjackets in three events at the conference meet, finishing second in the 4x100 meter, third in the 100 meters and sixth in the 200 meters.
Â
Abdallah also finished fifth in the 100 meters at regionals and ended the season with the second-best 100-meter time in the Liberty League this season, the 11th-quickest in the 200 meters, and was on UR's 4x100-meter relay that was second-best in the conference in 2026. He earned one Liberty League Rookie of the Week honor during the outdoor season.
Â
Hansen and Abdallah, who also earned Liberty League Field Athlete and Rookie of the Year following the indoor season, are just the second student-athletes in program history to take home Outdoor Field Athlete and Rookie of the Year honors. Prior to Hansen,
Cole Goodman was URochester's first-ever Outdoor Field Performer of the Year in 2023, while Scott Sikorski earned the 'Jackets' first Outdoor Rookie of the Year honor in 2021.
