Strong Finish Nets Hansen 15th Place in NCAA Multi’s

LA CROSSE, WI – Competing in his second decathlon in as many weeks, sophomore Emmett Hansen posted a strong finish on Friday at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, securing 15th place at Veterans Memorial Stadium on the campus of University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
 
Hansen's 15th place earned the University of Rochester track and field sophomore the final All-America spot, earning Second Team honors, improving his finish from the NCAA indoor championship by one spot.
 
The final event of the competition on Friday, the 1500 meters, was Hansen's highest scoring day two event, netting him 708 points. He crossed the line in 4:35.58, ranking fifth in the decathlon field.
 
Additionally, Hansen had a solid effort in the pole vault on day two, ranking seventh in the field with a height of 4.15 meters, adding 659 points to his total score.
 
Friday's action started for Hansen with the 110 meter hurdles. The URochester sophomore was 20th overall in 16.85 seconds, scoring 640 points, sliding one spot down in the standings to 19th place.
 
He stayed 19th after the discus throw, where he posted a best mark of 31.38 meters, 17th amongst the decathlon athletes, scoring 492 total points.
 
Next came the pole vault, which allowed Hansen to move up two spots on the overall leaderboard.
 
The penultimate event was the javelin, with Hansen earning a tenth place result with a throw of 47.61 meters. That scored 553 points and moved him into All-America position in 16th.
 
After the final 1500 meter run, the Yellowjacket sophomore was able to move up one additional place, ending 15th in the field of 22 competitors. Among those 22, 18 were able to compete in all ten events over the two days.
