NEW YORK – The University of Rochester track and field teams were represented at one of the sports biggest events on Saturday, competing at the 115th Millrose Games at the historic Armory in New York City.
UR entered women's and men's 4x400 meter relay teams and senior
Scott Sikorski competed in the George Hirsch men's mile race.
Sikorski was the highlight of the day, setting a new Rochester school record in the mile. His time of 4:04.72 smashed his own UR record by over three full seconds, finishing ninth of 12 runners in the race which featured several elite runners from across the country.
The time ranks 12th all-time in Division III and is the third best in Division III so far this season.
Bansbach had a 56.28 second split in the
women's relay event.
Earlier in the day, the Rochester women's relay team took to the course first and came away with a victory, beating out Division I teams Fordham, Central Connecticut and Colgate in the 1600 meter race. Rochester's
Megan Bell,
Kate Isaac,
Susan Bansbach and
Kristin Hardy made up the squad which posted a time of 3:51.57.
Rochester's time was a season-best for the Yellowjackets and ranks sixth in Division III so far this season.
Later on, Rochester's 4x400 meter relay team competed in the men's event, but unfortunately did not finish due to injury. The quartet was made up of
Gabe Lundy,
Daniel Ford,
Mitch Lienert and
Brendan McCollum.
UR's track and field teams are approaching championship season in two weeks and have one meet left before that, the Nazareth Conference Tune-Up, taking place next Friday evening.
