BROCKPORT, NY – Day one of the Brockport Multi & Invitational got underway on Friday evening with several Yellowjackets competing in the multi-event competition, representing both the Rochester men's and women's track and field teams.
Overall, UR had four athletes take part in the men's heptathlon and two females took part in the pentathlon.
After day one of competition in the seven-event heptathlon,
Aeden Angelone leads UR and is third among 15 competitors with 2511 points. Angelone was runner-up in the shot put with a toss of 11.77 meters, finished third in both the long jump (5.81 meters) and high jump (1.82 meters) and was 11th in the 60 meters.
Sophomore
Gabe Thyne sits in seventh with 2,253 points after Friday's four contested events. He scored best in the 60 meters, finishing fourth in 7.51 seconds. He added a sixth place result in the high jump, clearing 1.73 meters (569 points) and was eighth in the long jump (5.89 meters, 563 points).
Savic finished seventh in the women's pentathlon.
Classmate
Lucas Thiele is ninth in the field with 2,161 points. He was fifth in the long jump, posting a mark of 6.13 meters for 615 points and ended sixth in the high jump, reaching a height of 1.73 meters. Thiele added 662 points to his score with a 7.66 second sprint in the 60 meters.
Senior
Alex Opsahl is the fourth Yellowjacket men's competitor, scoring 1,961 points on the opening day, good for 12th place. Opsahl got off to a terrific start, scoring three top-4 results in the 60 meters, long jump and shot put, but he unfortunately could not earn a height clearance in the high jump, earning no score for that event.
On the women's side, senior
Iva Savic finished seventh to lead the Yellowjackets, scoring 2,576 points. She exceled in the long jump, finishing third with a leap of 5.01 meters, scoring 562 points. Her highest scoring event was the 60 meter hurdles, where she notched 653 points for her 10.32 second time, ending eighth. She also was eighth in the high jump (1.41 meters), ninth in the shot put (7.74 meters) and 13th in the 800 meters.
First-year
Julia Largett wrapped up her competition in 11th place, scoring 2,325 points. Largett finished the night strong, ending sixth and fifth in the last two events, the long jump and 800 meters, respectively. She scored 589 points in the 800 meters, ending with a time of 2:38.58. In the long jump, she scored 495 points with her 4.76 meter leap. She was 12th in both the 60 meter hurdles and high jump, while ranking 15th in the shot put.
The rest of the meet action begins at 10 am on Saturday.
