BIRMINGHAM, AL – Sophomore Cole Goodman and junior Aeden Angelone completed tremendous meets at the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships on Saturday afternoon at the Birmingham Crossplex, representing the University of Rochester men's track and field team.

Goodman ended as the Division III runner-up in the triple jump after breaking the school record twice on the day. The sophomore placed second with a UR record 15.39 meter jump, equaling 50 feet, 6 inches.

In the event, Goodman held the lead after his opening leap of 15.04 meters, only to have that position surpassed by Jonathan Wilburn from Wisconsin-Oshkosh in the second round. After the opening three jumps for all 20 competitors, Goodman ranked second with his then record jump.

In the finals, Goodman had two strong marks, 14.69 meters and 14.86 meters, but did not improve his position, remaining in the number two spot. Heading into the sixth and final round in the finals, Wilburn had increased the lead to 15.23 meters.

Goodman stepped up and crushed his last attempt, earning his career-long jump to grab first place with only one jumper left to possibly grab the national title away from him. Wilburn showed his resilience and popped off PR and Division III season-best jump of 15.56 meters on his final attempt, capturing the event crown.

Aeden Angelone
Angelone finished 13th in the heptathlon.

The runner-up finish matches the best ever result by a UR athlete at the indoor NCAA Championships and is the top triple jump result in three all-time appearances at indoor nationals for the UR men's team. It also earns Goodman his first All-America award in just his second NCAA appearance, after he finished 12th last season indoors in the triple jump.

Angelone also had a strong two-day meet, competing in the heptathlon. He finished 13th with a score of 4,653 points, missing out on All-America honors by less than 150 total points.

The junior started day two in eighth place and remained there after the opening event, the 60 meter hurdles. Angelone sprinted to a time of 8.88 seconds, scoring 772 points towards his total.

In the next event, the pole vault, Angelone set a new personal-best height, clearing 4.00 meters to add 617 points his score, ranking ninth in the event, his best result of the day.

To finish off the meet, the junior placed 16th in the 1,000 meter run, clocking in with a 3:10.41 time, adding 566 points to the total, reaching his final score across the seven-event competition.
