BROCKPORT, NY – University of Rochester men's track and field kicked off the SUNY Brockport Outdoor Multi & Invitational with the first five events of the Decathlon at Eunice Kennedy Shriver Stadium, and wrapped up day one holding each of the top-three spots on the leaderboard.
Through the first five decathlon events, the 100m, long jump, shot put, high jump and 400m,
Aeden Angelone sits in first place with 3,472 points, with Alex Opshal just behind in second place with 3,372 points. In third sits
Gabe Thyne with 3,104 points, while
Lucas Thiele and
Jack Maness rounded out the top 10 in eighth and 10th with 2,777 and 2,603 points, respectively.
So far, a Rochester competitor has won all but one of the first five events, with a Yellowjacket finishing first, second or both in every event.
Angelone took home first place in the long jump and high jump, recording a new personal best jump in the long jump at 6.52m, while coming in tied for first with Opsahl in the high jump at 1.88m. Angelone began the day with a second-place finish in the 100m, running a new personal-best time of 11.40s, took second in the shot put (12.00m) and fourth in the 400m (52.70).
Right behind Angelone in the standings, Opsahl won the shot put with a throw of 12.21m, and tied Angelone in the high jump with a new pr of 1.88m. Opsahl started the day by finishing sixth (11.73) in the 100m, before taking second in the long jump (6.24m) and 400m (52.27), recording new personal bests in both the 100m and 400m.
Thyne took home first place in the 400m with a personal-best time of 51.19s, started the day with a third-place finish in the 100m with another personal-best time of 11.53, before finishing seventh in the long jump (6.06m), 10th in the shot put (8.63m) and tied for fourth in the high jump (1.76m), adding another two PRs in the long and high jumps.
Maness recorded his best finish of the day in the 100m, clocking in at 11.78s, before finishing ninth in the long jump (5.86m), high jump (1.58m) and 400m (56.48), while Thiele finished fifth in the 400m (53.99), seventh in the high jump with a pr of 1.70m, eighth in the long jump (6.03m) and ninth in the 100m (11.85m).
Day two of the Brockport Outdoor Multi & Invitational gets underway on Saturday, April 15, beginning with the decathlon 110m hurdles and the heptathlon long jump at 9:00 a.m.
