Men’s Track & Field Wins UR Alumni Invitational

PRINCE ATHLETIC COMPLEX – The University of Rochester men's track & field team took home first place out of 13 competing teams at the UR Alumni Invitational on Saturday at Edwin Fauver Stadium.
 
The 'Jackets finished the day with 180 points, nearly 50 more points than second-place RIT. The Tigers finished second with 135 points on the day, while Brockport rounded out the top three with 109.5 points.
 
Scott Sikorski and Mitch Lienert led UR in the track events, with both falling just shy of record-breaking performances. Leinert scored first-place finishes in both the 100 and 200 meters, finishing 0.01 seconds off the program record in the 100m, while Sikorski finished 0.07 seconds off the school record in the 800m.
 
Lienert led the 'Jackets in the 100m with a 10.78s time, a new personal best and an All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Championship (AARTFC) qualifier, with P.J. London right behind the junior in second place at 10.82s, also a new pr and regional qualifier.
 
Lienert and London also finished 1-2 in the 200m, with Lienert clocking in with an AARTFC qualifying time of 22.19, while London set a new personal best with his 22.47 second-place finish.
 
In the 800m, Sikorski's first-place time of 1:50.80 was also a personal best and regional qualifier and currently ranks 9th in NCAA Division III. Sikorski paced four Yellowjackets in the Top 10 of the 800m, with Brendan McCollum finishing four with a new personal best and AARTFC qualifying time of 1:54.88, Daniel Ford coming in fifth with a time of 1:57.06, and Griffin Weiner finishing seventh with a new pr of 1:58.87.
 
Rochester also added two more scores on the 2023 NCAA Division III Outdoor Qualifying List, as Cole Goodman and Frederick Liu recorded the 17th and 38th-best jumps in the long jump this season.
 
Goodman broke his own school record with a 7.16m jump, hitting the regional qualifying mark with a new, outdoor personal best, for the 17th-farthest long jump in DIII. While Liu jumped a personal-best 7.01m, also hitting the AARTFC mark with the 38th-best jump in DIII.
 
Goodman and Liu led five Yellowjacket finishers in the top 10 of the long jump, with Manny Eribo coming in fourth with another AARTFC qualifier and new personal best of 6.87m, Kyle Lane in sixth at 6.69m and Sam Lorenzetti in eighth at 6.66m.
 
In the triple jump, Goodman added another regional qualifier to UR's tally of 12, jumping 14.28m for a first-place finish. Lorenzetti followed closely behind in fifth at 13.12m, while Lane finished sixth at 13.05m.
 
UR's three other AARTFC qualifiers came in the hammer throw, where Jordan Johnson, Nolan Ragland and James O'Neill all hit the regional marks. Johnson paced the trio with a third-place finish, hitting a new pr with a 51.84m throw. Ragland finished fifth with a 49.53m throw, while O'Neill came in sixth with a personal-best 49.51m throw.
 
Joe Bumpus joined the trio finishing in the top 10 of the hammer with a 10th-place throw of 44.44m.
 
Elsewhere in the throwing events, Ragland (5th, 12.82m), Kevin Fobare (7th, 12.59m) and Bumpus (8th, 12.44m) all scored top-10 finishes in the shot put, with Bumpus hitting a new pr, while O'Neill (3rd, 42.99m), Johnson (8th, 40.75m) and Zajans Crapo (9th, 39.90) all finished in the top 10 of the discus, with Johnson and Crapo both setting new high marks.
 
Crapo also led Rochester in the javelin throw, finishing second with a throw of 45.69m, while O'Neill scored third with a throw of 44.64m, Aeden Angelone finished fifth at 44.45m, and Alex Opsahl came in seventh with a throw of 39.79m.
 
Rounding out the field events, Aadit Jain scored UR's best finish in the high jump at 1.82m, while James Schmidt was UR's lone participant in the pole vault, coming in 8th at 3.86m.
 
Nolan Goldthwaite got the 'Jackets' day started with a pr in the 3000m steeplechase, coming in seventh with a time of 10:27.91.
 
Up next in the 4x100 relay, Oliver Annon, Goodman, Lorenzetti and Lane ran to a fifth-place time of 45.03 to score points for Rochester, while in the 4x400, both UR's "A" and "B" relays finished in the top eight.
 
The 'Jackets' A-Relay team of Max Creamer, Weiner, Ford and McCollum finished second at 3:25.57s, while the B-team of Christian Voloshen, London, Eribo and Richard Santarosa clocked in at 3:36.00, good for seventh.
 
In the 1500m, Alec Glazier paced the Yellowjackets with a new high mark of 4:02.23, good for fourth place, while Sean Hendricks tallied another top-10 finish for UR with an eighth place and new personal-best run of 4:04.16.
 
Nate Brunacini scored an outdoor, personal best 15:50.01 time in the 5000m, finishing ninth, while Gabe Thyne led the 'Jackets in the 400m, clocking in with a new pr of 50.91, good for eight.
 
And in the 110m hurdles, Peter Brodnik finished second, coming in with a time of 15.35.
 
Rochester next heads to Pittsford, NY for the Cardinal Classic, hosted by St. John Fisher University on Saturday, April 29, for their final tune-up before the Liberty League Championships on May 4-5.
