PITTSFORD, NY – In its final tune-up for the upcoming championship season, the University of Rochester men's track and field team competed on Saturday afternoon at the St. John Fisher Cardinal Classic.

The competition across town gave the Yellowjackets an early look at the Polisseni Track & Field Complex, site of this year's NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships, taking place in late May.

On Saturday, Rochester produced several strong results, including four wins and a dozen All-Atlantic Region qualifiers.

Sophomore Cole Goodman smashed the UR school record in the long jump for the second straight week. Goodman jumped 7.39 meters, easily eclipsing the mark of 7.16 meters which he set at Fauver Stadium during the UR Alumni Invitational a week ago. His distance is now the #11 mark in Division III this season.

Fellow sophomore Manny Eribo also produced a big lifetime best in the same event, clearing 7.07 meters, a regional qualifier and current #40 distance in Division III this season. He was fourth in the event and the jump also moves Eribo up to third in the Rochester record book. A third regional qualifier also emerged from the long jump, as Kyle Lane placed sixth in 6.68 meters.

Eribo also joined Aadit Jain, Mitch Lienert and P.J. London on the 4x100 meter relay which earned an event win on Saturday, clocking in with an AAR time of 42.75 seconds.

Three athletes hit AARTFC marks in the hammer throw, led by Jordan Johnson's fourth place finish of 52.48 meters. Teammate Nolan Ragland finished right behind him in fifth at 52.13 meters, with both being new personal records. James O'Neill was eighth in the same event with a 48.28 meter toss. Joe Bumpus (46.15 meters) added a personal best in finishing 10th.

Johnson also was a regional qualifier in the discus, leading the Yellowjacket throwers in fourth place with a 44.85 meter mark. O'Neill placed seventh at 41.90 meters.

Lienert ended as a double-winner for Rochester, claiming the title in the 200 meters in 22.21 seconds, a regional qualifying performance. London was seventh, crossing the finish at 22.78 seconds.

In the middle distance races, Alec Glazier and Griffin Weiner each had new personal records to qualify for regionals. Weiner was runner-up in the 800 meters at 1:55.89, while Glazier ended fifth in the 1500 meters, posting a time of 4:01.89.

UR's other AARTFC qualifier was the 4x400 meter relay team of Max Creamer, Luke Lyons, Weiner and Brendan McCollum. The group earned a runner-up finish and timed at 3:19.89, a season-best on the UR squad.

Cody Reeth earned a win during the unseeded pole vault competition, clearing 4.15 meters, while James Schmidt was fourth in the same event at 3.85 meters.

During the shot put, both O'Neill and Ragland recorded outdoor PR's. O'Neill was fifth with a 14.18 meter mark and Ragland finished ninth at 12.87 meters.

Also in the throws, UR placed eighth, ninth and tenth. Alex Opsahl led the group with a 39.41 meter toss. He was followed by Dylan Rykert (38.17m) and Bumpus (37.26m).

Up next, Rochester returns home to host the Liberty League Outdoor Track & Field Championships, looking to match the effort produced during the indoor season, when UR claimed the conference title.

The meet takes place at Fauver Stadium and at the GLC throws complex next Friday and Saturday.
