PITTSFORD, NY – University of Rochester women's track and field set and tied a pair of program records at St. John Fisher's Cardinal Classic on Saturday at the Polisseni Track & Field Complex.
UR's 4x400 relay squad of
Madeline O'Connell,
Kristin Hardy,
Megan Bell and
Susan Bansbach won the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:44.43, setting a new program and facility record in the process. The quartet broke the previous record set in 2022 by 0.20 seconds and came in with the second-fastest time in NCAA Division III, hitting the AARTFC regional qualifying marks in the process.
The 'Jackets also ran a 'B' relay team in the event with
Isabella Doty,
Carissa Minarovich,
Rita Sciortino and
Kendra Watson finishing third with a time of 4:29.10.
Minarovich also set a new personal best in the 400m, coming in 13th with a time of 1:03.34.
O'Connell also tied her own program record in the pole vault, as the senior was a three-event winner for the second consecutive week. O'Connell's 3.85m vault was good for first among the 15 competitors in the invitational portion of the event, hit the regional qualifying mark and tied the record O'Connell set earlier this outdoor season at SUNY Geneseo.
O'Connell also won the 200m, coming in first with a time of 24.89, a new personal best and the 24th-fastest time in NCAA DIII. Bansbach and
Kate Isaac joined O'Connell in the top five of the event, with Bansbach finishing second with a time of 25.12s and Isaac coming in fourth at 25.97s. All three times hit the AARTFC qualifying mark as well.
In the 110m hurdles,
Ashley Heffernan added another regional qualifying time to Rochester's tally, finishing sixth with a time of 15.16s, while Hardy also hit the AARTFC mark with a fourth-place finish in the 100m, clocking in with a new personal-best time of 12.65s.
The 'Jackets also hit three AARTFC marks in the field events:
Cora Rose with a second-place finish in the discus,
Gillian Reeder with a sixth-place finish in the hammer throw and
Ashleigh Barrett with a seventh-place jump in the long jump.
Rose finished second with a 40.27m throw in the discus, and also paced UR in the javelin, finishing 12th with a 26.95m throw and the shot put, coming in 11th (11.12m).
In the hammer throw, Reeder hit the AARTFC mark with a 45.35m throw, while
Livia Ilasz came in eighth at 43.30m.
Barrett scored a seventh-place finish with a 5.46m jump in the long jump, while Barrett, along with
Alyssa Hoogs and
Zoe Fortin all earned top-10 finishes in the triple jump. Hoogs led the trio, finishing sixth (10.67m), while Fortin scored eighth (10.66m) and Barrett came in 10th (10.55m).
Also in the field events, Heffernan led the 'Jackets in the high jump with an 11th-place finish of 1.42m.
In the 3000m steeplechase,
Alissa Beam finished third with a time of 12:30.28, while
Rachel Dennis added another top-three finish in the 5000m, clocking in at 18:59.21, with
Kyra Sandercock also finishing in the top 10 in ninth (19:46.24).
Rochester got its day started at the Cardinal Classic with the 4x100 relay, with
Tina Kyriacou,
Maya Hatch,
Jael Ernest Fleurant and
Emily Salman finishing eighth with a time of 51.97.
The Yellowjackets will next compete for the Liberty League Outdoor crown when they host the 2023 Liberty League Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Fauver Stadium, beginning on Friday, May 5 at noon.
