HENRIETTA, NY – With more than 21 new personal bests and eight regional-qualifying scores, University of Rochester men's track and field turned in a stellar performance on Saturday at the RIT Outdoor Invitational at the Tiger Track & Field Complex.
In the track events, Rochester recorded seven Top-5 finishes, led by
Peter Brodnik's first-place finish in the 110m hurdles. Brodnick led four Yellowjackets finishing in the Top 10 with a personal-best time of 15.09, currently among the Top 50 times in NCAA Division III and AARTFC qualifying time.
Cole Siewert,
Gabe Thyne and
Lucas Thiele joined Brodnick in the Top 10 of the 110m hurdles, clocking in at 16.47 (6th), 17.06 (8th) and 17.34 (10th), respectively, with Siewert and Thiele both setting new PRs.
In the 400m hurdles,
John Moyer added another Top-5 finish, coming in third with a time of 56.88, another personal best and AARTFC qualifier.
Nate Brunacini and
Max Hughes added two more Top-5 finishes in the 3000m steeplechase, finishing second and third, respectively, with times of 9:32.86 and 9:33.22, both personal bests and regional qualifiers, as well as Top-50 times in NCAA DIII. Also joining Brunacini and Hughes in the Top 10 was
Nolan Goldthwaite, who ran a personal best 10:31.36 to a 10th-place tally.
Hughes added another pr in the 800m, finishing 13th with a time of 2:00.08, while
Manny Eribo and Brodnik added two more personal bests in the 200m, clocking in at 22.95, good for 7th and 8th place.
Two more Top-5 finishes in the track events came in the 5000m for UR, as
Nick Gaitanis and
Vishal Yalamanchili finished fourth and fifth, respectively, with personal best times of 15:09.26 and 15:29.52, with Gaintanis' time earning AARTFC qualifying status.
Griffin Weiner, along with
Brendan McCollum,
Daniel Ford and
Christian Voloshen, scored UR's final track Top-5 finish of the day in the 4x400, finishing fourth with a time of 3:29.99.
Weiner also paced UR in the 1500m, coming in seventh with a time of 4:03.45, while
Aadit Jain scored a sixth-place finish in the 100m, clocking in at 11.52.
In the field events,
Sam Lorenzetti notched the 'Jackets' lone AARTFC qualifying score with a second-place finish in the triple jump, jumping 13.71m, a new personal best, the top collegiate finish in the event and the 41st-best jump in DIII.
Lorenzetti also added a seventh-place finish in the long jump (6.31m), while
Frederick Liu and Eribo earned Top-5 finishes with their jumps of 6.52m and 6.42m, respectively.
In the high jump, Jain and Siewert finished fourth and finish, jumping 1.81m and 1.76m each, with both 'Jackets setting new prs.
Jordan Johnson earned UR's best finishes in the throwing events, scoring third in both the javelin and hammer throws. Johnson led four UR Top-10 finishers in the javelin with a 43.98m throw, with
Zajans Crapo finishing sixth (42.53m),
Alex Opsahl taking 7th (40.87m), and
Joe Bumpus scoring eighth with a personal best 39.51m throw.
While in the hammer throw, both Johnson and
Nolan Ragland hit the AARTFC qualifying mark, with Johnson's personal-best throw of 50.82m good for third, and Ragland's throw of 49.85m good for fourth.
Also finishing in the Top 10 were O'Neill (46.49m, 6th) and Bumpus and Crapo with personal best throws of 44.62m (7th) and 43.02m (8th), respectively.
O'Neill led UR in the shot put, finishing fifth with a throw of 13.24m, while
Dylan Rykert scored eighth with a throw of 12.86m.
Finishing things off for Rochester,
James Schmidt earned a 10th-place finish in the pole vault with a vault of 3.85m.
Next up for the Yellowjackets is another split-squad weekend, as UR competes in both the Bison Outdoor Classic, hosted by Bucknell University, in Lewisburg, PA beginning on Saturday, April 15, as well as the SUNY Brockport Outdoor Multi & Invitational on Saturday, April 15 beginning at 10:00 a.m.
