UR Impresses at Duke Invitational

DURHAM, NC – Led by Scott Sikorski's 800-meter victory, University of Rochester men's track & field posted four Top-10 finishes, competing against NCAA Division I competition on Friday and Saturday at the Duke University Invitational at Morris Williams Stadium.
 
Sikorski took home the individual title in the 800m, running a first-place time of 1:51.24, a regional-qualifying time and currently the fourth-fastest time in NCAA Division III. Sikorski beat out a field of Division I competition in the 800m after finishing 16th in Friday's 1500m, the highest-finishing Division III competitor in the event.
 
In the 1500, Sikorski ran an All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Championships (AARTFC) qualifying time of 3:52.19, the 12th-fastest time in NCAA Division III.
 
Also on Friday, Zach Spergel ran a personal best 15:07.94 time in the 5000 meters, good for 52nd place and another AARTFC qualifying score.
 
All five Yellowjackets who competed in Durham on Friday and Saturday posted AARTFC qualifying times, while three notched times that currently rank in the Top 20 in Division III.
 
Luke Lyons got the 'Jackets Saturday started with a bang, finishing sixth in the 400m, the highest non-DI competitor, with a time of 49.51.
 
P.J. London then scored a Top-10, 10th-place finish in the 100 meters, clocking in at 11.00.
 
Then to wrap up the day with the 400m hurdles, Gabe Lundy came in third with a time of 53.26, another AARTFC qualifier and currently the fifth-fastest time in DIII.
 
Next up for the Yellowjackets is another split-squad weekend, as UR competes in both the Bison Outdoor Classic, hosted by Bucknell University, in Lewisburg, PA beginning on Saturday, April 15, as well as the SUNY Brockport Outdoor Multi & Invitational on Saturday, April 15 beginning at 10:00 a.m.
