Liberty League Honors Bansbach, Coaches With Major Awards

Following voting conducted by the Liberty League coaches, the University of Rochester women's track and field team brought in two major awards from the conference, wrapping up an outstanding 2023 outdoor track and field season.
 
Senior Susan Bansbach capped her remarkable Rochester career by earning Co-Track Performer of the Year honors, while Rochester's coaches, Sam Albert, Barbara Hartwig, Eddie Novara, Jay Petsch and Paul Rose were named Women's Coaching Staff of the Year in the conference.
 
In addition, 14 individuals on the team were awarded a combined 28 honors from the Liberty League, earning All-League status based on their finishes at the conference championships earlier this season. Athletes finishing within the top-3 at the Liberty League meet earned All-League status, with winners being named First Team, runner-up's garnering Second Team accolades, and third place finishers being awarded Honorable Mention status.
 
Rochester's coaching staff helped guide the Yellowjackets claim the Liberty League title this outdoor season, edging out Ithaca for the team title for the second straight year. The Yellowjackets thrilled the home crowd at Fauver Stadium with wins in nine different events at the league championships.
 
In addition, the Yellowjackets placed second of 47 teams at the All-Atlantic Region Outdoor Championships and sent six individuals to the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships. Those six individuals combined to score ten team points at nationals, earning Rochester a top-25 finish among over 70 teams that scored at the meet. Albert also was recognized as the Niagara Region Women's Track Coach of the Year following UR's performance this season outdoors.
 
On the national performance list, Rochester accumulated 19 rankings inside the top-50 across Division III, spanning 11 different events. The Yellowjackets also were among the top teams in Division III all season, posting a top-20 ranking on the National Ratings Index all regular season, peaking at #10 entering the NCAA Championships.
 
Bansbach wraps up her senior season with her second straight Outdoor Track Performer of the Year Award and fourth overall conference major award. She previously had won Indoor Track Performer of the Year this winter and was also 2019-20 Indoor Rookie of the Year within the Liberty League.
 
This season, Bansbach added two more All-America honors to her trophy case at the NCAA Division III Championships, capturing second place on the 4x400 meter relay while also earning seventh in the individual 400 meters. The senior sprinter also competed on the 4x100 meter relay which finished 11th at nationals. UR's runner-up relay time was 3:41.17, tying for seventh fastest ever in Division III history and easily breaking the UR and conference records.
 
Bansbach was named Liberty League Track Performer of the Meet at the conference championships where she was 4-time winner, capturing the 200 meters, 400 meters, 4x100 meter relay and 4x400 meter relay, earning conference and meet records in both the 200 meters and 4x100 meter relay, while also setting a meet record in the 4x400 meter relay. The senior also was a triple-winner at the AARTFC Championships and earned five conference Track Performer of the Week Awards this outdoor season.
