University of Rochester men's golf graduate student
Brendan Frain and football senior
Daniel Papantonis were named the Liberty League Performer of the Week in their respective sports, as announced by the conference on Monday.
Â
Frain was the tournament medalist for Rochester at the St. John Fisher Invitational on Sunday and Monday. The graduate student finished as the lone player under par in the 39-golfer field, shooting rounds of 69, 70 and 71 to end at 3-under 210 for the 54-hole tournament.
Â
Frain's win was the second of his career and his three par-or-better rounds were more than his past two seasons combined. His event featured 2 eagles, 2 birdies, 30 pars and just two holes at over-par.
Â
Rochester's 'A' team, of which Frain was a part of, finished the event in first place with a team score of 873, shooting 291 (7-over) in each of the three rounds. The Yellowjackets won the team title by 17 strokes over UR's 'B' squad, with 8 total teams making up the field.
Â
Papantonis earned Liberty League Offensive Performer of the Week honors after keying UR's offensive attack in a 49-7 drubbing of Alfred State on Saturday, rushing 17 for 152 yards and 2 touchdowns. He started the scoring with a 56-yard touchdown run on Rochester's first drive of the game and added a one-yard plunge to end the first half, making the score 35-0.
Â
Overall on the day, Papantonis averaged 8.9 yards per carry and the Yellowjackets as a team piled up 285 total yards on the ground in the win.
