WILLIAMSPORT, PA – All five golfers in the University of Rochester lineup recorded scores under 80 as the Yellowjackets ended day one in ninth place at the Northeast Elite Invitational hosted by Penn State Altoona at Williamsport Country Club.
Rochester's standing could still change at the end of round one, as a little over half of the competing teams finished their opening round on Sunday. Seven of 18 schools still have holes left to play after a delay forced teams to tee off later in the day, with play getting suspended due to darkness around 7 p.m.
Overall, the Yellowjackets carded a team score of 300 (+16) for round one. Gettysburg sits in first place with a 288 team score, followed by Franklin & Marshall (291) and Penn State Altoona (293). UR is currently sixth among teams that completed their first round.
UR's top three scorers were
Henry Zhong,
Galen Fowles and
Anderson Palm who each recorded a 3-over par round of 74. Both Zhong and Fowles recorded four birdies on their scorecards, while Palm had three holes under par on the day.
Zhong, Fowles and Palm are ranked tied for 22nd on the individual leaderboard after 18 holes.
First-year
