Yellowjackets Wrap Up Play in Virginia

WILLIAMSBURG, VA – The 17th-ranked University of Rochester men's golf team wrapped up the two-day, NCAA Division III Preview on Tuesday, finishing 18th in the highly-competitive and ranked field at the Kingsmill Resort.
 
The stacked field featured 17 schools in the Golf Coaches Association of America preseason coaches' poll, including the 17th-ranked Yellowjackets, with only host Christopher Newport not ranked.
 
Scores were up across the board in the 18-team field, with rain and wind affecting play throughout the final day of competition. After the 18 squads combined for a 72.63 average score in round one and 71.91 in round two, the average score in the third and final round of competition was 74.57.
 
The Yellowjackets combined to shoot 307, 23-over, in the final round. Sophomore Henry Zhong was Rochester's top individual finisher, shooting an even par to finish the three rounds at four-over-par, good for a tie for 38th on the individual leaderboard. Zhong sank a trio of birdies on the front nine, including on the par-three, 173-yard fifth hole, notching three birdies in a four-hole span.
 
Senior Arjun Aujla shot Rochester's next-best round, carding a six-over to finish at 12-over for the preview. Aujla also birdied the par-three fifth hole and finished in a tie for 68th on the individual leaderboard.
 
Sophomore Anderson Palm finished in a tie with Zhong in 38th place individually, shooting eight-over on the final day of competition at the Kingsmill Resort. Palm tallied birdies on the third and fifth holes and finished the day at four-over for the three rounds.
 
Junior Galen Fowles rounded out Rochester's four scoring golfers, turning in a nine-over round to finish at 14-over for the tournament, tied for 72nd. Fowles also had two birdies, both of which came on the front nine.
 
Rochester's final competing golfer was first-year Haden Wang, who shot 10-over to finish at 29-over for the three-round tournament, good for 90th. The first-year sank one birdie across his 18 holes, on the par-five third hole.
 
2nd-ranked Huntingdon took home the team title with an overall score of 18-under, after shooting seven-over in round three. 9th-ranked Kenyon shot one-over in round three to finish at 16-under, good for second place, while 6th-ranked Emory came in third at 11-under, having shot an even par on Tuesday, the only team that didn't shoot above par in the final round.
 
The Yellowjackets next head to Williamsport, PA, to compete at the Northeast Elite Invitational at Williamsport Country Club, beginning on Sunday, Sept. 27.
