GENEVA, NY – Junior Josephine Libby breezed through a pair of singles matches and is into the round of 16 representing the University of Rochester women's tennis team at the ITA Northeast Regional Championships on Saturday afternoon at William Smith College.

Libby, the singles bracket top seed, combined to drop just one game in her two matches, winning 6-1, 6-0 in the opening round before blanking her second round opponent with a straight set 6-0, 6-0 win. Libby dispatched Oneonta's Julia Holtermann in round one before advancing with a round two win over Skidmore's Katelyn Corpuz.

The junior will battle TCNJ's 9/16 seeded player Aira Abalos in the third round starting at 8:30 am on Sunday at the HWS Tennis Center.

Rochester also had three other singles players in the main draw of the event, with two of those players, sophomores Neha Dania and Sanjana Karnam picking up victories before falling to seeded players in round two.

Dania won in her opening round, defeating Maya Clinard of RIT by a 3-6, 6-3, 10-7 score. Karnam earned a singles win during the first round in a quicker fashion, defeating Geneseo's Rory Tobin 6-2, 6-0. Both players ended up falling to seeded individuals in the second round. Skidmore's Grace Truong (9/16 seed) won 6-1, 6-0 over Dania, while NYU's Jimena Menendez (5/8 seed) posted a 6-3, 6-2 win over Karnam.

UR's fourth player in the singles bracket, first-year Lauren Kallas, earned a tough matchup in the opening round, playing against 5/8 seed Taylor Crain of Ithaca. Kallas was able to take a few games, but dropped her match in straight sets, falling 1-6, 2-6.

The Yellowjackets also had one doubles team competing, with Libby pairing with Karnam in main draw action. In a tough battle against NYU's Menendez and Ksenia Goel, the UR pair fell by an 8-6 score, ending their hopes at a bracket title.

Both the doubles team and all three of the non-advancing singles players, Dania, Karnam and Kallas will participate in consolation matches on Sunday during day two.
