HENRIETTA, NY – The University of Rochester women's swimming & diving team wrapped up the regular season with a tri-meet against RIT and No. 21 SUNY Geneseo, hosted by the Tigers at Judson Pool, on Saturday morning, falling to both the Tigers and Knights to finish out the regular season.
The 21st-ranked Knights bested UR, 187-112, while the Yellowjackets also fell to RIT, 210-89.
Rochester tallied eight top-three results on the day, led by
Deniz Yardimci's first-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke. Yardimci swam a 1:00.49 time, while
Sophia Dmytruk joined the sophomore in the top five with a fifth-place finish, clocking in at 1:02.47.
Dmytruk was one of five Yellowjacket swimmers to swim to a second-place tally, finishing in the top three in both the 200-yard backstroke and the 200-yard IM. Dmytruk claimed second in the 200-yard backstroke with a 2:12.30 time and touched the wall in 2:15.17 in the 200 IM to add another top-two finish to her tally.
UR had three of the top-five finishers in the 200-yard backstroke, with
Leah Tang (3rd, 2:14.85) and
Katherine Hegblom (4th, 2:15.73) rounding out the top four, while Tang also joined Dmytruk in the top six of the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:17.29.
Gloria Ng and
Rachele Bachmann each added second-place results in the 100-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard butterfly, respectively, with Ng swimming a 1:08.55 time, and Bachmann touching the wall in 2:17.38.
Izzy Stevenson also swam to a top-five result in the 200-yard butterfly, finishing a few spots behind Bachmann in fifth with a time of 2:22.70.
Rochester's last two second-place finishes on the day came in the 200-yard breaststroke, where
Ariana Pasquella clocked in at 2:27.95, good for second, and in the three-meter dive, where
Lizzie Budde led all UR divers with a second-place tally and a 251.15 score.
The Yellowjackets got the meet started earlier on in the day with a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, as Dmytruk, Pasquella, Bachmann and Tang swam a 1:55.16 relay.
Then in the 1,000-yard freestyle,
Simone Lin paced the 'Jackets with a fourth-place finish, touching the wall in 11:32.40. Later on in the 500-yard freestyle,
Alicia Albuquerque led UR, finishing fourth with a time of 5:30.17.
The Yellowjackets would wrap up the day with Pasquella,
Hannah Gentile,
Jessica Spahn and
Talia Proweller earning UR's best finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay, finishing fourth with a time of 3:50.06.
Following a week off, Rochester next heads to Chicago, IL to compete at the 2024 UAA Swimming & Diving Championships, hosted by the University of Chicago, beginning on Wednesday, Feb. 14 at 10:00 a.m.
