‘Jackets Just Shy of Top-10 After Day Two of October Classic

DESTIN, FL – For the second-straight day, the 25th-ranked University of Rochester men's golf team cared a sub-300 performance, shooting 296, 12-over, on the second day of the 2024 Golfweek Division III October Classic at the Sandestin Resort Raven Golf Club.
 
Shibo Wang led the Yellowjackets on their second day of competition, shooting one-under on the par 71, 6,623-yard course. Wang connected on four birdies in his second round, playing even on the front nine before shooting one under on the back nine with three of his four birdies.
 
Overall, the sophomore is tied for 13th on the individual leaderboard, three under for the competition heading into the final day of play on Tuesday.
 
Galen Fowles was UR's next lowest finisher on day two, coming in at three over par, 74. Fowlers led Rochester with five birdies on day two, shooting par on the front nine before finishing three over for the day. The first-year bounced back from a tough day one to sit at plus nine overall for the competition, tied for 97th, individually.
 
Up next on the Yellowjacket leaderboard, Gary Pan finished four-over for the day, notching a pair of birdies on the front nine. After shooting two-over in his opening round on Sunday, Pan shot 75 on day to sit six-over through the second day of the classic, tied for 73rd with fellow Yellowjacket Luke Evans.
 
Both Evans and Alvin Su shot six-over-par, 77, to round out Rochester's lineup on day two, with Evans tallying a trio of birdies, while Su notched two.
 
Individually, Su is tied for 47th at three-over after shooting a 68, three-under, on day one, while Evans joins Pan in a 12-way tie for 73rd at plus-six through two days on the course.
 
Headed into the final day of competition in Florida, Rochester sits in 11th place, just a stroke shy of No. 3 Carnegie Mellon in 10th. The three-day event features 18 teams ranked in the Golf Coaches Association of America's Top 25, with all but one of the 24 teams competing receiving votes in the poll.
 
6th-ranked Washington & Lee sits atop the field at 26-under-par, having shot 16-under on day two, while No. 21 Sewanee (-16) and No. 7 Huntingdon College (-8) round out the top-three squads heading into the final day of the classic.
 
Teams will hit the course for the final day of the Golfweek October Classic beginning at 7:30 a.m., with the final team teeing off at 9:55 a.m.
