DESTIN, FL – The University of Rochester golf team picked up several impressive wins, finishing in a tie for 10th place at the Golfweek October Classic on Tuesday afternoon at the Sandestin Resort's Raven Golf Club.

Rochester, ranked #25 in the most recent Division III Coaches Poll, finished in a tie for 10th among 24 teams in the field, all of whom were nationally-ranked or among others receiving votes in the poll. UR's finish put them ahead of eight ranked schools, including #2 Emory, #3 Carnegie Mellon, #11 Kenyon and #15 Bethel.

UR's team score for Tuesday's final round was a stellar 282, ranking just two strokes off the single-round school record. During Sunday's opening round, the 'Jackets carded a 281, the second best single-round team score in program history.

The two near record rounds, coupled with a 296 in round two moved the Yellowjackets overall score in the event to 859, tying with #17 Hampden-Sydney on the team leaderboard.

Rochester's top golfer on Tuesday was first-year Luke Evans who played near perfect golf, shooting a 3-under par round of 68 on the par-71, 6,623-yard layout at the Raven Golf Club. Evans' day started with a birdie on hole one and ended with another birdie on hole 18. The rookie added birdies on 11 and 14 and shot just one over par hole, recording a bogey on his seventh hole of the day. He finished the tournament in a tie for 44th with a 216 total score.

Sophomore Shibo Wang finished under par for the third straight round, shooting a 2-under 69 to end the event in a tie for tenth among the 120 total golfers. Wang's final round pushed his total to 208 for the 54 holes. The key stretch on his Tuesday scorecard was recording back-to-back-to-back birdies on the 11th, 12th and 13th holes. He would par the rest of the holes to reach his 2-under round. Overall, the sophomore led UR with 12 birdies in the tournament.

Joining Evans in a tie for 44th at 216 for the event was fellow first-year Alvin Su. Su ended his tournament by shooting even-par, 71 on Tuesday, recording three birdies and three bogeys on his scorecard. Two of his three birdies came in the opening three holes, with the rookie playing steady the rest of the way, notching 12 pars over the remaining 15 holes.

Rochester's fourth scorer was senior Gary Pan who competed in his final event for the Yellowjackets, as he will graduate early from the University this December. Pan ended his tournament with a birdie on his final hole, reaching a round of 74 on Tuesday. The senior ended the event ranking 77th overall with a three-round score of 222. Overall for his career, Pan ends averaging 76.16 strokes per round, seventh best in program history.

Wrapping up the Yellowjacket lineup was first-year Galen Fowles who shot a 77 (6-over) in his final round. Gowles ended in a tie for 106th place and used 228 strokes overall in the 54-hole tournament.

For their efforts in this event, Wang and Su were honored by the Liberty League as Performer and Rookie of the Week, respectively. For Wang, the weekly award is his first from the Liberty League in his career, while Su's rookie season has already seen him earn the conference's top rookie weekly honor twice in 2024.
