‘Jackets Secure 6-3 Home Win vs. St. Lawrence

No. 15 University of Rochester men's squash wrapped up its weekend with a win, defeating the 22nd-ranked St. Lawrence University Saints, 6-3, on Sunday afternoon at the Lyman Squash Center.
 
Van Inman-Benavente got Rochester started with a win at No. 7, topping the Saints' Maury Escalona, 3-0; 11-2, 11-5, 11-5. UR then added its next two points at No. 3 and No. 4, sweeping the first three matches against St. Lawrence.
 
Dhirren Rajarathinam swept Alexander Scott, 11-7, 11-9, 11-5 at the No. 3 spot, while Tom Whiteley made it 3-0 with a 4-1 victory at the No. 4 spot; 10-12, 14-12, 13-11, 11-6, bouncing back from defeat in the first game to take the next three.
 
The Saints picked up their first point at No. 9 as Karim Moataz was forced to retire due to injury, but UR scored the next two matches to clinch the win.
 
At the No. 1 spot, Yash Fadte needed five sets to top Lewis Anderson, before Arnav Mandhana came up with the clincher at the No. 6 spot.
 
Fadte took the fifth set, 11-4, against Anderson after winning the first and third, 11-4 and 11-6, while Anderson took the second and fourth, 11-9 and 11-9. While Mandhana topped SLU's Miguel Posada Villa in four: 11-13, 11-9, 11-7, 11-4.
 
With the win clinched for UR, St. Lawrence would score victories at the No. 2 and No. 8 spots, before Jake Koeppel pulled out a five-set win at No. 5 to finish off the 6-3 victory.
 
SLU's Athrva Yadav swept Nic Gill, 11-8, 11-8, 11-9, at the No. 8 spot to pick up a point for the visitors, while Gregory Malsang defeated Omar Zakaria, again in three games: 11-9, 11-2, 11-6, at No. 2.
 
Then at No. 5, Koeppel took the first two games against Hassan Madkour, 11-8, 11-8, before the senior came back to win the next two against Koeppel, 4-11, 7-11. Koeppel though, would notch the final game, 11-6, to take the No. 5 match, 3-2, and finish off the win for the Yellowjackets, 6-3.
 
With the win, the Yellowjackets move to 2-5 on the year, while St. Lawrence falls to 0-3.
 
Following the holiday break, the Yellowjackets are back in action on Sunday, Jan. 12 when they travel to Philadelphia, PA for a matchup at Drexel University at 12:00 p.m.
