VICTOR, NY – A wet and soggy day on the course caused scores to rise across the board for the entire field, including the University of Rochester golf team, on day two of the NCAA Flower City Preview at Cobblestone Creek Country Club on Monday morning.
Rochester shot a combined score of 308 on day two in the third round of action for the event, which is serving as a course preview for next springs NCAA Division III Golf Tournament, which will be hosted by St. John Fisher University.
Overall for the two days, Rochester tallied a team score of 883 (+19) to rank 12th of 17 teams in the field. The team participants in the event featured the top seven teams in Division III and several others in the top-25 or receiving votes in the most recent coaches poll.
3rd-ranked Emory University took the team title with a score of 833, followed by #5 Illinois Wesleyan (845) and top-ranked Methodist (847).
Leading the way for Rochester on Monday was sophomore
Shibo Wang who carded a 75 on the par-72 layout at Cobblestone Creek. Wang finished in a tie for 65th place overall with a three-round total of 228.
First-year
Alvin Su closed out his first collegiate stroke play event with a 4-over round of 76, ending with a team-best score of 219 for the tournament. His finishing position was in a tie for 33rd among 90 golfers in the field.
Senior
Gary Pan logged a team-best four birdies on Monday, helping lead to a score of 77 and a tie for 37th place overall finish at 220.
Two other UR first-years rounded out the Yellowjacket lineup at the NCAA Preview, with
Luke Evans and
Eddie Ren shooting rounds of 80 and 82, respectively. Evans finished in 58th place at 225, while Ren tied with Wang in 65th.
Rochester is back in action next weekend at the Northeast Elite Invitational at Williamsport Country Club in Williamsport, Pennsylvania on Saturday and Sunday.
