WILLIAMSPORT, NY – The University of Rochester golf team turned in its second straight impressive round, earning a runner-up finish at the Northeast Elite Invitational on Sunday afternoon at Williamsport Country Club.
Rochester's team score on day two was a 288 (4-over) finishing with a two-day toral of 573, ranking second among 20 teams in the competition hosted by Penn College and Penn State Altoona. Trinity College (CT) earned the team title with a 36-hole score of 565. Liberty League rival RPI ended in third, six strokes behind UR at 579.
Sophomore
Shibo Wang led the Yellowjackets on Sunday with an even par round of 71 on the 6,616-yard course layout. Wang's card was steady with 16 pars and two bogeys along with an eagle on the par-5 sixth hole. Wang ended tied for 11th with a 143 (+1) score overall.
Senior
Gary Pan recorded a birdie-birdie finish on the final two holes of his round to finish with a 72 (1-over) on Sunday afternoon, finishing as the highest Yellowjacket on the overall leaderboard with a two-day total of 140 (2-under), ranking tied for sixth in the field. Pan also eagled the sixth hole.
First-year
Alvin Su went out in a stellar 3-under, 33 over the first nine holes on Sunday and ended with another birdie to wrap up an even-par round of 71. Su was the third 'Jacket golfer to eagle the par-5, sixth, and finished with three other birdies in his round. For the tournament, the rookie finished at 145, tying for 21st place.
Another first-year,
Eddie Ren, scored as UR's fourth scoring player in the starting lineup on Sunday's final day, shooting a 3-over, 74. Ren tied for the team lead with four birdies on his card and was one of four 'Jackets to shoot under par on the par-5, 18th hole. His two round score was 150, slotting him in a tie for 52nd place.
Galen Fowles wrapped up UR's lineup with a 76 (5-over) during day two's play. Fowles had four birdies on the day and ended in a tie for 31st overall with a 147 score across 36 holes.
Joining Wang in a tie for 11th was first-year
Luke Evans who shot a 73 on the second day of play. Evans played as an individual in the event, so his scores did not count towards Rochester's total.
The Yellowjackets next event is scheduled for mid-October, as Rochester is playing in the Golfweek October Classic at the Sandestin Resort in Destin, Florida.
