The University of Rochester women's swimming and diving team earned a pair of wins over NCAA Division I competition to open the 2025-26 campaign on Saturday in its season-opening tri-meet inside the Speegle-Wilbraham Center.
Rochester defeated Canisius, 176.50-122.50 and edged Siena, 153.50-146.50, while the Saints topped the Golden Griffins, 155-143.
The Yellowjackets recorded six victories and 22 top-three results, led by
Ariana Pasquella, who was a double-winner and broke her own pool record. Pasquella won both the 100 and 200 breaststroke, touching the wall in 1:06.13 in the 100 breaststroke and 2:23.65 in the 200 breaststroke.
Pasquella's time broke her previous pool record by 0.34 seconds, while the senior also added a second-place tally as a member of UR's 'A' 200 medley relay. Pasquella, along with Phoebe Hamblet,
Addison Powers and
Morgan Edstrom, took second in the 200 medley with a time of 1:50.36 to open the tri-meet. While
Amelia Hardiman,
Sarah Leevan,
Sophia Dmytruk and Julianna Weaver combined for a 1:51.85 time on URochester's 'B' relay to place fourth.
The Yellowjackets added event wins in both diving events, where
Kaela Springer won the one-meter, and
Julia Sides took home the three-meter. Springer finished first in the one-meter with a 240.35 score, while Sides placed third with 204.70 points.
In the three-meter, Sides finished atop the podium with 228.50 points, while
Lilia MacKenzie joined Sides in the top three with a third-place result and 208.50 score.
Ally Mackey scored an event win in her first meet with a first-place finish and 2:10.13 time in the 200 butterfly, while
Katelyn Packer won the 500 freestyle with a 5:24.93 time.
Mackey led a trio of Yellowjacket first-years in the top three of the 200 butterfly, as
Ava Kaufman placed second with a 2:15.10 time, and Powers took third, touching the wall in 2:16.36. Kaufman also joined Packer in the 500 freestyle, finishing second with a time of 5:28.40, while Powers was URochester's top finisher in the 100 butterfly, clocking in with a second-place time of 59.67.
Hardiman scored a pair of second-place results in the 200 backstroke (2:11.46) and 200 IM (2:15.49) with another Yellowjacket finishing right behind her in both events. Hamblet took third in the 200 backstroke, finishing a second behind Hardiman (2:12.34), while Mackey came in behind Hardiman in the 200 IM with a time of 2:15.75.
Julianne Weaver added another second-place tally and a pair of top-three results, one of six first-years that placed in the top three on the day for the Yellowjackets. Weaver finished second in the 50 freestyle (24.56), ahead of Edstrom, who clocked in at 24.68 in third place, and third in the 100 freestyle, touching the wall in 54.39.
Following URochester's opening medley relay,
Rachel Ruminer paced the 'Jackets in the 1000 freestyle, placing third with a time of 11:24.08, while Hamblet was the 'Jackets' top finisher in the 100 backstroke with a fourth-place time of 1:01.99.
The Yellowjackets 'A' relay team of Edstrom,
Adele Hellstrom, Leevan and Weaver then wrapped up Rochester's day in the 200 freestyle relay, taking second with a time of 1:40.96 to help secure the victories.
Rochester will look to keep things rolling when it heads to Cortland, NY, for a dual meet against SUNY Cortland on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 1:00 p.m.
