ITHACA, NY – Following an opening day that saw the Yellowjackets notch eight top-three finishes, the University of Rochester women's swimming & diving team sits in second place after day one of the Ithaca College Bomber Invitational inside the Kelsey Partridge Bird Natatorium.
Rochester notched a pair of top-three results in the evening relays, as well as individual top-three finishes in each of the evening's finals: the 50 and 500-yard freestyle, the 200 IM and the one-meter dive.

Sarah Leevan,
Adele Hellstrom and
Morgan Edstrom got the evening's finals started with the 200-yard freestyle relay, coming in second place with a time of 1:37.05. While Rochester's 'B' relay of
Addison Powers,
Izzy Stevenson,
Amelia Hardiman and
Gina Rubiano took ninth with a time of 1:40.48.
After taking fifth in the morning's prelim,
Katelyn Packer moved up to third in the 'A' final of the 500-yard freestyle relay, clocking in at 5:11.30, nearly five seconds faster than her preliminary time.
Ava Kaufman joined Packer in the 'A' final, finishing in eighth with a time of 5:22.03, while URochester added five more placers in the top-24.
Pheobe Hamblett took the top spot in the 'B' final, ninth place, clocking in at 5:17.77, while
Paige Lovelace came in 10th (5:18.18) and
Rachel Ruminer touched the wall in 5:26.80, good for 15th with
Courtney Dietrich right behind her in 16th place (5:26.81). In the "C' final,
Marin Ievers came in 18th with a time of 5:29.75.
Rochester then had eight Yellowjackets place in the 200 IM, including five who qualified for the 'A' final in the morning prelim. Hardiman came away with UR's top finish in the 'A' final, finishing third (2:12.13), while
Ally Mackey placed fourth (2:12.44),
Olivia Dewar came in fifth (2:12.53) and
Ariana Pasquella took sixth (2:13.28), helping URochester take four of the top-six spots in the 'A' final of the 200 IM.
Mari Finkelstein made it five swimmers in the 'A' final, replicating her eighth-place result in the prelims in the evening's final with a time of 2:16.60, while
Isabel Phillips (10th, 2:15.92) and
Rachele Bachmann (12th, 2:18.82) both scored in the 'B' final, and
Natalie Reinhart (22nd, 2:23.43), in the 'C' final.
Three more Yellowjackets swam in the 50-yard freestyle 'A' final, with Hellstrom leading the pack with a second-place finish and a 24.16-second time in the finals. Edstrom was next up in fourth place, touching the wall in 24.26 seconds, while Weaver came in sixth at 24.42 seconds. Three more 'Jackets joined them in the 'C' final: Stevenson (18th, 25.46), Rubiano (23rd, 25.62) and
Hannah Gentile (24th, 25.81).
In the one-meter dive,
Julia Sides was Rochester's top finisher, placing third with a 429.65 score, while
Kaela Springer came in seventh with 405.55 points.
The 'Jackets 400-yard medley relays wrapped up the evening with another second and ninth-place results, as Hamblett, Pasquella, Mackey and Weaver clocked in at 3:57.08 on URochester's 'A' relay, while
Sophia Dmytruk, Leevan, Powers and Hellstrom combined for a ninth-place time of 4:02.37.
URochester tallied 638.5 points on the day, good for second place behind host-Ithaca, who tallied 775. Smith College is in third place with 334 points, while Vassar rounds out the top four in the seven-team field with 327 points.
Day two of the Ithaca College Bomber Invitational in Ithaca, NY will get started at 9:00 a.m., with the evening's finals scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
