JEKYLL ISLAND, GA – The University of Rochester golf team secured its tournament-best round on the final day of competition at the Jekyll Island Invitational on Sunday, scoring a 12th place finish among 30 teams at what is annually one of the top Division III tournaments in collegiate golf.

During the third round, Rochester fired a team score of 290, combining for just a 2-over par score to end the event with an 882 score over the 54-hole event at the Pine Lakes Course at the Jekyll Island Golf Club.

When the final scores were finalized, Rochester earned head-to-head wins against several nationally-ranked teams in the field including #15 Southwestern, #18 Kenyon, #7 Carnegie Mellon, #13 Guilford #21 Berry and #20 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. The Yellowjackets are among others receiving votes in the latest Division III golf poll.

11th-ranked Huntington College took home the team title, scoring 855 for the three-day tournament. Overall, 16 teams in the Division III top-25 competed among the 30 total schools, with eight of the top-10 teams making the trip to Georgia.

All five Yellowjacket golfers shot rounds of 76 or better on the final day, marking the second time in the tournament that happened, matching the feat from Friday's round one.

First-year's Luke Evans and Eddie Ren paced Rochester on Sunday, both carding even-par rounds of 72 on the par-72, 6,700-yard layout at Pine Lakes. Both were remarkably consistent in the final round, with Ren notching 16 pars on his card, along with one birdie and one bogey. Evans ended with two birdies and two bogeys along with 14 pars.

Fellow rookie Alvin Su and sophomore Shibo Wang both ended with 1-over par rounds of 73 during the third round, while junior Josh Pethel carded a final round score of 76 (4-over). Su's scorecard featured three birdies and an eagle on the par-5, 18th hole, while Wang had three birdies in his round as well.

Wang finished as UR's leading golfer over the 54-holes, ending in a tie for 22nd place among the 150-golfer field. He shot scores of 75-69-73 for a 217 total. Su was two shots behind at 219, ranking tied for 33rd place.

Ren's final round moved him up 30 places on the leaderboard to rank tied for 78th for the tournament, scoring 226 for three rounds. Both Evans and Pethel cracked the top-100, ending tied for 95th with scores of 228.

Also competing over the weekend was sophomore Arjun Aujla who was taking part in the Jekyll Island Individual Invitational and the Indian Mound Golf Club.

The UR sophomore ended that event in solo second place among 24 golfers, shooting a 220 total for the three rounds. Aujla carded back-to-back scores of 74 on Friday and Saturday before signing for an even-par 72 in Sunday's final round. The runner-up finish was the best of the sophomore's career to date.

Rochester's next event is its lone home tournament of the season, with the Yellowjackets hosting the annual Fred Kravetz Invitational at Irondequoit Country Club and Oak Hill Country Club in a couple weeks, on April 11-12.
