PINEHURST, NC/WHISPERING PINES, NC – The University of Rochester golf team opened up its spring semester schedule on Sunday, competing in a pair of events in North Carolina, with both being hosted by Hampden-Sydney College.
Rochester's
Eddie Ren, competing at the Whispering Pines Invitational carded a 2-under par round of 70 to pace the Yellowjacket golfers. Ren is competing as an individual at that event and sits in a tie for second place among the 92 golfers at that competition.
UR's team event is the Tiger Invitational at Forest Creek Golf Club, with the Yellowjackets sitting in a tie for 15th place among 20 teams after day one. Rochester shot a combined team score of 16-over, tallying a team score of 304 on Sunday.
First-year
Alvin Su leads the way for the 'Jackets at Forest Creek, shooting a 1-over par round of 73. One shot back is sophomore
Shibo Wang who used a team-high three birdies to shoot 2-over, 74 on Sunday. Su sits in a tie for 18th place in the field, while Wang is tied for 24th.
Fellow rookie
Luke Evans (T-50th) notched a 4-over round of 76 in the opening round, with junior
Josh Pethel (T-85th) completing the scoring four golfers for Rochester with an 81 (+9) in the first round. Junior
Marshall Kim (T-92nd) rounded out the UR lineup with an 83 over the opening 18 holes.
Joining Ren at the Whispering Pines Invite were UR's remaining golfers on the roster,
Galen Fowles and
Arjun Aujla.
Fowles sits in a tie for 18th place after opening with a 4-over round of 76, with Aujla ranking in a tie for 40th. The sophomore shot an opening round of 7-over (79) on Sunday.
Both events conclude on Monday.
