Four members of the University of Rochester men's swimming and diving program: senior
Bryce Berkhof, junior
Brendan Habert and sophomores
Nate Attwell and
Max Wozinski, were selected to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Men's Swimming Team, as announced by the CSC on Tuesday.
The 2024-25 CSC Academic All-District® Men's Swimming & Diving Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes. To be nominated, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average and must have competed in at least five competitions or finished inside the top-8 at a conference meet.
Berkhof posted the Yellowjackets' top times in the 500-yard, 1,000-yard and 1,650-yard freestyle this season, setting new personal-bests in all three events, as well as the 200-yard freestyle, at the 2024-25 University Athletic Association Swimming & Diving Championships in February. The senior finished 17th in the 1,650-yard freestyle (16:26.92), 23rd in the 500-yard freestyle (4:39.66) and 29th in the 200-yard freestyle (1:43.06) while swimming in a pair of relays for UR, the 400-yard and 800-yard freestyle relays. Overall, Berkhof's times rank fourth in the 50 free, fifth in the 1,000 and 1,650 free and eighth in the 200 free on UR's Top-10 times list.
A double major in computer science and business, Berkhof is a three-time UAA All-Academic selection and a two-time CSC Academic All-District honoree and this past fall, he was selected as one of UR's Lysle 'Spike' Garnish Scholar-Athletes. The senior is also a member of UR's Computer Science Undergraduate Group, TAed for Mobile App Development, and previously interned at Resideo Technology as a software engineer.
Habert was UR's top diver this season, posting the Yellowjackets' best scores in both the one-meter and three-meter in both six and 11 dives. All-time Habert's personal bests rank in the top-10 diving scores in program history, while the junior finished 12th in the three-meter (330.95) and 13th in the one-meter (347.45) at UAAs. Habert's best six-dive scores came in a dual meet against Nazareth on Nov. 16, while the junior finished top-five in both diving events at Ithaca on Dec. 8, setting a new personal-best score in the three-meter (415.20).
Away from the pool, Habert previously worked at the Laboratory for Laser Energetics and TAed for OPT 241. An optical engineering major, Habert has been selected to the Dean's List four times and is both a two-time UAA All-Academic and CSC Academic All-District selection. On campus, Habert is a member of Optica, while this summer, Habert plans on working at Raytheon.
Attwell swam several freestyle and medley events for Rochester this season, ranking second on the team in both the 500 and 1,000-yard freestyle. The sophomore helped UR break the 400-yard medley relay record for the first time this season at the Ithaca Bomber Invitational on Dec. 7 and competed in three events and three relays at UAAs. At UAAs, Attwell helped UR's 200-yard freestyle relay earn a seventh-place finish, swam on the 'Jackets' 'B' 800-yard freestyle relay, and swam in the 100, 200 and 500-yard freestyle prelims, setting a new personal-best with his 47.60-second time in the 100-yard freestyle, and 4:44.90-second time in the 500-yard freestyle.
Academically, Attwell is a biochemistry major and plans on taking a physics minor. A 2024-25 UAA All-Academic selection, Attwell received the Phi Beta Kappa Suzanne J. O'Brien Book Award this year and is planning on researching biochemistry with a Columbia professor this summer. Following his graduation in two years, Attwell hopes to study biochemistry with a focus on pharmaceutical design and development in grad school.
Wozinski was Rochester's top diver at UAAs, finishing 10th in the one-meter dive (376.95) and ninth in the three-meter (380.10). The Yellowjacket sophomore scored 11 top-three diving finishes this season, including a trio of first-place results. For the season, Wozinski ranked second in both the one-meter and three-meter on the squad, notching his best six-dive performance in the one-meter against Nazareth on Nov. 16 and in the three-meter vs. Alfred and Fredonia on Nov. 9, while the sophomore hit his best 11-dive scores in exhibitions on UR's Senior Day against Brockport and MCC on Jan. 25.
When not diving, Wozinski is a chemical engineering major and a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. The sophomore received the Dean's Scholarship and was a 2024-25 UAA All-Academic honoree. Back home in New Providence, NJ, Wozinski is active in his community, involved in many community service projects, including his Eagle Scout project, completely renovating the town's Senior Center.
Academic All-District selections will be evaluated by a sub-committee and advanced to the national, All-America ballot, to be voted on by CSC members within their respective divisions.
The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes men's and women's swimming & diving honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
