PITTSFORD, NY – First-year player
Alvin Su paced the University of Rochester golf team on day one of the annual Fred Kravetz Invitational on Friday afternoon at Irondequoit Country Club.
Su was the top 'Jacket golfer by five shots on Friday, carding a 1-under par round of 71 on the par-72, 6,830-yard course layout. He sits in a tie for second place among the 39 players in the field after the opening round.
The rookies round was consistent, as he has been all season, shooting a team-high four birdies to go along with one bogey, one double bogey and 12 pars.
The Yellowjackets as a team recorded a four-player score of 306 on Friday, ranking fourth of six teams in the field. UR's competition is steep, with the last two NCAA Division III national champions, Carnegie Mellon in 2023 and Methodist in 2024, being in the field.
2nd-ranked Methodist shot a team score of 291 to lead the tournament, with #11 Carnegie Mellon ranking second at 299 through the opening 18 holes. McDaniel sits third at 303, followed by Rochester, Farmingdale State (312) and Alvernia (330).
Rochester's next best scorer on day one was
Arjun Aujla who played as an individual. He sits in a tie for 14th after carding a 4-over, 76.
Ranking tied for 20th in the field was first-year
Luke Evans who shot an opening round 77, one stroke better than junior
Josh Pethel who finished at 78 (6-over) during Friday's round that featured cold and wet weather conditions.
Two 'Jackets finished Friday at 80 (8-over), with
Marshall Kim and
Eddie Ren hitting that number. Kim was an individual, while Ren's score completed the UR best 4-of-5 golfer starting lineup.
Galen Fowles ended at 9-over (81), with
Shibo Wang carding an 82 during Friday's action to completed the Rochester golfers in action.
The same teams take to the course at Oak Hill Country Club on Saturday morning for the tournament's final round. Tee times begin at 11 am on Oak Hill's West Course.
