‘Jackets End Third at Kravetz Invite

PITTSFORD, NY – The University of Rochester golf team concluded its lone home event of the season in third place on Saturday, wrapping up play at the annual Fred Kravetz Invitational at Oak Hill Country Club.
 
Rochester shot a team score of 289 in the final round, finishing the tournament at 595 for 36-holes. 2nd-ranked Methodist University captured the team title with a tournament record 571, with 11th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University ending second at 581.
 
Rounding out the field were McDaniel College (596), Farmingdale State (602) and Alvernia University (638).
 
Leading the UR lineup on Saturday was first-year Luke Evans who fired an even-par round of 70 on the par-70, 6,735-yard layout at Oak Hill's West Course. Evans was 2-over through eight holes but finished strong, carding eight pars and two birdies over his final ten holes to end at even. He finished tied for eighth in the field at 5-over, 147.
 
Fellow first-year Alvin Su was the top finishing player on the leaderboard, ending at 2-over, 144 for the two days. Su shot a final round 73 on Saturday to end in a tie for fourth place.
 
UR's other two scoring players in the lineup on Saturday both shot 73's as well, with Eddie Ren and Shibo Wang hitting that number. Ren finished tied for 25th in the field at 153, while Wang was two shots behind in a tie for 27th.
 
The fifth golfer in Rochester's starting lineup was Josh Pethel who ended the event with a 78 (8-over) on Saturday. He concluded the tournament with a score of 156, tying for 30th place.
 
Rochester also was able to get three individuals in the field, with sophomore Arjun Aujla finishing the best among that trio, ranking tied for 15th with a score of 149. He shot a 3-over, 73 in the final round.
 
First-year Galen Fowles ended tied with Pethel for 30th with a 156 score, carding a 75 on Saturday, while junior Marshall Kim wrapped up the event in a tie for 34th place with scores of 80 and 79.
 
Rochester's next event is the final regular season tournament of the year, with the Yellowjackets playing at the Farmingdale State Spring Invitational next Saturday and Sunday.
