Wang Shares Medalist Honors to Lead UR at FSC Spring Classic

FARMINGDALE, NY – With sophomore Shibo Wang leading the way, the University of Rochester men's golf team wrapped up the Farmingdale State College Spring Classic in a tie for second place with the host Rams on Sunday at Bethpage Red.
 
Wang tied for the top spot on the individual leaderboard, tying for medalist honors with RPI's Ryan Komp. After shooting an even par on Saturday, Wang shot one-under, 69, on Sunday, moving up six spots into first-place overall. Wang notched a team-high four birdies on day two of the competition, heading into the back nine at one-over, before sinking three of four birdies on the back nine.
 
As a team, the Yellowjackets finished the day at seven-over par, 287, and wrapped up the competition at 569, nine-over, in a tie for second place with Farmingdale State and one spot behind RPI, who won the invitational with a two-day score of 568, eight-over par.
 
No. 6 Huntingdon took fourth place at 12-over par, with NYU rounding out the top-five teams in the 16-team field with a 578, 18-over par, two-round score.
 
Alvin Su also finished the day at one-under par with a 69, second-round score, finishing the competition at five-over, good for a 17th-place finish. The first-year turned in a trio of birdies on day two, shooting an even par on the front nine and one-under on the back nine.
 
Luke Evans was Rochester's next-highest finisher on day two and took home a fifth-place individual finish after a stellar day one of the invitational. Evans finished the two-day event at one-over par, shooting three-under on Saturday and four-over, 74, on Sunday.
 
Arjun Aujla rounded out Rochester's lineup on day two, shooting five-over, 75, and plus-four for the tournament. Aujla and Evans both turned in birdies on the back nine, with Aujla birdieing the par-three, 208-yard 12th hole, while Evans' birdie came on the par-five, 565-yard 16th hole.
 
Individually, Aujla placed 13th, and tied with Eddie Ren at five-over on the second day of competition. Ren tied Wang with four birdies on the day and wrapped up the two-day event at 11-over par in 48th.
 
Rochester also had Josh Pethel competing as an individual, and the junior also turned in a five-over card on day two to finish at 12-over for the invitational, and 57th overall.
 
The Yellowjackets will next look to defend their Liberty League title when they travel to Turning Stone Resort in Verona, NY, for the 2024-25 Liberty League Men's Golf Championship, beginning on Friday, April 25.
