PITTSFORD, NY – The University of Rochester men's track and field team competed on Sunday at the St. John Fisher Last Chance Meet, getting in one final competition before the All-Atlantic Regional Championships coming up later this week.
During Sunday's action, select individuals from Rochester's squad combined to get nine AARTFC qualifying marks, set five personal-bests and had six top-3 results.
Seniors
Cole Goodman and
Jordan Johnson earned event wins for the Yellowjackets, with Goodman finishing first in the long jump and Johnson taking first place in the hammer throw. Goodman finished with a distance of 6.82 meters, while Johnson's hammer throw distance was 58.06 meters, with both being regional qualifiers.
The Yellowjackets added two runner-up finishes, with seniors
P.J. London and
Sam Lorenzetti ranking second in the 200 meters and triple jump, respectively. London crossed the finish in 21.86 seconds, and Lorenzetti jumped 13.68 meters. Each were good enough to continue their season at regionals.
In the discus, both Johnson and sophomore
Ethan Beer hit the regional standard, finishing in third and fourth place. Johnson tossed the implement 46.29 meters, and Beer was right behind at 45.32 meters.
UR's top two finishers in the 400 meter hurdles, first-year's
Greg Palma and
Owen Hatungimana, each hit the AARTFC time and set season-best performances in the event. Palma was fourth in 55.74 seconds and Hatungimana was one spot behind in fifth, posting a time of 55.86 seconds.
Teammates
Elijah VanHoover (56.70 seconds) and
Mark Magyar (58.35 seconds), also secured top-8 results in the 400 meter hurdle race. VanHoover also competed in the 110 meter hurdles, ranking fifth in a personal-best 16.11 seconds.
Rochester's final regional qualifier on Sunday was
Brendan McCollum in the 800 meters. McCollum finished third in 1:55.54, ahead of teammate
Sean Hendricks who ended tenth in 1:59.79.
Evan Bryant,
William Stiska and
Emmett Hansen each scored a fifth place result on Sunday, coming in the 400 meters, 200 meters and javelin. Bryant ran to a time of 50.27 seconds, Stiska finished in 22.17 seconds and Hansen had a toss of 48.48 meters.
Also competing in the javelin, was senior
Zajans Crapo who finished sixth with a mark of 46.67 meters. Lorenzetti matched that result in the long jump at 6.42 meters.
Manny Eribo added a top-10 in the long jump as well, jumping 6.13 meters.
Joining Johnson in the hammer throw were
Armaan Butler (8th, 48.74m), Crapo (11th, 47.18m) and
Kevin Fobare (14th, 45.65m).
