PENFIELD, NY – The University of Rochester golf team got in about 30 holes of golf on Thursday at the NCAA Division III Championships, finishing up round three and completing more than half of round four at Midvale Country Club.

Championship officials decided to play as many holes as they could on Thursday, anticipating inclement weather on Friday for the originally scheduled final round. Darkness did not allow any team to fully complete its fourth round, so the remaining holes will be completed early on Friday morning, with play resuming at 7:45 am.

In the completed round three, Rochester shot a combined score of 300 (+12), moving its 54-hole total to 903, ranking tied for tenth in the field of 18 remaining teams that made the cut.

The Yellowjackets started out strong during the morning play, with all five golfers combining to record ten total birdies over the first six holes. The Yellowjackets during this time moved up on the leaderboard into the top-5 in the team standings.

UR's strong play continued into the early part of the back nine, with four of the five 'Jackets notching birdies on the par-5 tenth hole. Unfortunately for Rochester, that hole was the last of the birdies in the round, as the team slipped back several shots in the later stages of the round.

First-year's Luke Evans and Alvin Su led Rochester in round three with matching scores of 1-over, 73 on the par-72 layout at Midvale Country Club. Both golfers had four birdies in their rounds, with Su remaining inside the overall top-10 after the round. Evans' meanwhile, had his best round of the tournament, bouncing back from an 82 during Wednesday's second round at Cobblestone Creek Country Club.

Sophomore Shibo Wang also enjoyed some solid play during the third round, finishing one stroke behind Evans and Su, carding a 2-over par round of 74. Two-thirds of Wang's holes finished at even par, with the sophomore also finishing with two birdies and four bogeys. Wang moved up on the leaderboard with his best round of the event by three strokes.

Rochester's fourth counting score in the third round was from sophomore Arjun Aujla who ended with an 80 (8-over). First-year teammate Eddie Ren ended with an 81 during his third round. Aujla notched one of UR's three birdies on the par-3, fourth hole, while Ren started out his day well, shooting back-to-back birdies on holes one and two.

The Yellowjackets got the bulk of its fourth and final round of the championship completed as well before play was called for the evening.

Both Wang and Aujla are 1-under par through 16 holes. Su sits at 3-over with four holes to play, while Evans completed his circuit with a score of 77. Ren has three holes left and was currently at 7-over for the round.

During the resumption of tournament play early on Friday, the Yellowjackets will look to move up the team leaderboard over the final few holes. Currently, Rochester as a team is tied for 13th with more than half of round four complete, but is just five shots outside of the top-10 in the field.
