Three Claim Individual Titles, UR Finishes 2nd at Outdoor LLs

HENRIETTA, NY – University of Rochester men's track and field seniors Cole Goodman, Jordan Johnson and Gabe Thyne won a trio of Liberty League titles, while the men's track and field team finished in second place to wrap up the 2025 Liberty League Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday at RIT's Track & Field Complex.
 
Johnson scored his third individual title of the meet in the discus, taking the top spot on the podium with a 46.46m toss, while Ethan Beer finished second with a 45.39m throw. Both Johnson and Beer's throws also qualified for the All-Atlantic Region Outdoor Track & Field Championships (AARTFC), two of 11 AARTFC qualifiers the 'Jackets piled up on the day.
 
Jordan Johnson - 2025 Liberty League Outdoor Men's Field Performer of the MeetFor his efforts across the two-day championship, Johnson, who won the discus, javelin and hammer throw, in addition to finishing third in the shot put, took home Liberty League Men's Field Performer of the Meet honors.
 
Johnson also was UR's top finisher in the shot put, placing third with a 13.54m toss.
 
Goodman notched his second Liberty League title in the triple jump after placing first in the long jump on Friday. The senior led five Yellowjackets who earned top-nine results in the triple jump, taking first with a 14.28m leap. Sam Lorenzetti finished second at 13.99m, while Austin Lansey took third with a 13.56m jump, with Goodman, Lorenzetti and Lansey's leaps all hitting the AARTFC qualifier mark.
 
Manny Eribo finished two spots behind Lansey in fifth place (13.08m), while Kyle Kelsey fell just short of scoring in ninth with a 12.04m jump.
 
Thyne won the decathlon, pacing a trio of Yellowjackets in the top five of the competition. The senior set a new personal-best mark with his 6,261-point score, the 28th-best mark in NCAA Division III so far this season. Thyne won the competition by 367 points and finished first in both the 110-meter hurdles (15.98s) and 1,500 meters (4:35.80) on the final day of competition, setting a new PR in the 1,500 meters.
 
Ashton Tokarski also set a new personal-best mark in the decathlon with his fourth-place finish, tallying a 5,552-point score. Tokarski set new PRs in the shot put on Friday, and then the 110-meter hurdles (8th, 17.76s) and discus (7th, 26.75m) on Saturday, before earning his highest finish on day two in the 1,500 meters (3rd, 4:57.60).
 
Jack Maness placed fifth in the competition with another PR, 5,489 points, notching personal-best marks in the high jump (7th, 1.70m) on Friday and the 110-meter hurdles (9th, 17.93s) and discus (3rd, 28.93m) on Saturday, while taking second in the pole vault with a 4.20m height.
 
Elsewhere in the field events, Tate Finger paced the Yellowjackets with an 11th-place result and 1.76m height in the high jump.
 
On the track, UR's 4x100-meter relay got the day started with a second-place finish, as Evan Bryant, William Stiska, P.J. London and Eribo combined for a time of 42.46 seconds, a regional qualifier.
 
Then in the 1,500 meters, first-years Liam Sakakeeny and Jacob Bernd both set new season-best marks and hit the AARTFC qualifying standard, with Sakakeeny placing seventh (3:57.25) and Bernd coming in eighth (3:58.13).
 
In the 400 meters, Bryant placed seventh with a time of 50.20 seconds, while London took fourth in the 100 meters, crossing the finish line in 11.01 seconds, with Stiska a few spots behind him in eighth place and a time of 11.09 seconds.
 
Brendan McCollum notched an AARTFC qualifier and set a new PR in the 800 meters, leading three Yellowjackets in the 800-meter final field. McCollum placed sixth, clocking in at 1:54.51, while Sean Hendricks took seventh place with a time of 2:01.39 and Skye Crocker crossed the finish line in 2:07.82, good for eighth.
 
Next up in the 400-meter hurdles, Rochester took four spots on the podium. Owen Hatungimana placed fifth with a season-best time of 56.12 seconds and Greg Palma finished sixth with another season-best time of 56.26 seconds. In seventh, Elijah VanHoover set a new PR with his 56.47-second time, while Mark Magyar also notched a PR, clocking in at 56.65 seconds.
 
James Catania then wrapped up the individual events on the track, placing third in the 5,000 meters with a time of 14:36.57, a new PR and an AARTFC qualifier, before UR's 4x400-meter relay closed out the meet.
 
Bryant, Trevor Whitney, McCollum and Colin Hascup combined to run a 4x400-meter relay time of 3:19.24, good for third, and UR's last AARTFC qualifier of the day.
 
As a team, Rochester scored 185 points, finishing second behind first-place RPI, which scored 318.5 points. RIT rounded out the top three teams with 155.5 points, with St. Lawrence (49.5) and Ithaca (45.5) in fourth and fifth place.
