Sophomore
Shibo Wang of the University of Rochester golf team was honored on Tuesday by the College Sports Communicators as an At-Large Academic All-District® selection for the 2024-25 academic year, recognizing achievements both in the classroom and on the course.
The 2024-25 CSC Academic All-District® At-Large Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes. To be nominated, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average and must meet certain criteria athletically. In golf, individuals must be in the lineup for 70 percent of an institution's team scoring events or in the lineup at a conference championship tournament.
CSC's At-Large team encompasses all other NCAA eligible sports that do not have their own individual team. These sports include fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, men's volleyball, water polo, men's wrestling, women's beach volleyball, bowling, women's rowing and women's field hockey.
This season, Wang was one of Rochester's top golfers, combining to average 73.40 strokes per round across 23.5 total rounds played. The sophomore was named Liberty League Player of the Year and First Team All-Liberty League, while also being a Second Team All-UAA pick. Additionally, Wang received All-Region honors from the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) for the second straight season and helped guide Rochester to a Liberty League title and 11th place finish at the NCAA Division III Championships last month.
Away from the course, Wang is majoring in Business, on the Finance track, at the University. He received UAA and Liberty League All-Academic accolades this season, and has been a Dean's List recipient in all eligible semesters so far on the River Campus. He has previously interned at CITIC Securities, one of the largest investment banks in China and his future plans include pursuing an MBA, with hopes of eventually running his own business. Wang also is an active volunteer, spending time at a center for individuals with disabilities back in China.
Academic All-District selections will be evaluated by a sub-committee and advanced to the national, All-America ballot, to be voted on by CSC members within their respective divisions.
The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes at-large teams in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
